March 24, 201016 yr That's a fair assessment. On paper UK benefitted a ton by the teams that got beat and losses some teams suffered. Regardles, Forde's smug writing style is still grating.
March 24, 201016 yr I'm equally tired of crazy UK fans, and those who are out to prove crazy UK fans wrong.
March 24, 201016 yr He starts out being somewhat agreeable with his writing and complimenting UK and then complains about how much of a gift of a bracket they ended up getting as if it's their fault who won the other games.
March 24, 201016 yr Good article. Very interesting information there. Most UK fans I talked to were actually disappointed that UL didn't make the Sweet 16. I know that this UK fan was cheering for them. He is making it sound like UK has a cakewalk to the title, and I don't see it that way. He could be setting up his next article if UK loses to rip Cal and the Cats for not winning against such weak competition. I would like to see a UK vs Syracuse matchup in the title game. That could be very exciting. He made some excellent points about parity. 11 different conferences represented in the Sweet 16 is amazing. The PAC 10 really surprised me. I didn't think they deserved 2 teams in the tourney. I was wrong.
March 24, 201016 yr That's a fair assessment. On paper UK benefitted a ton by the teams that got beat and losses some teams suffered. Regardles, Forde's smug writing style is still grating. Relatively fair, except this was probably published before the Truck Bryant news (otherwise he surely would have included it), and he goes out of his way to avoid mentioning WVU.
March 24, 201016 yr Forde cracks me up! I'm a UK fan and would have loved to see UL go on further! Next thing ya know, he'll be saying we paid refs to take the other top seeds out of the tourney! I mean, N Iowa couldn't have beat Kansas without some kind of assistance... right? He's a joke!!
March 24, 201016 yr Seemed OK to me...although I do find it interesting that UK now has an easy road after most of the experts talked about how difficult their draw was. I agree with Forde. But, I saw it that way when the pairings were announced. I thought our potential second round matchup was good...give me a talented, but dysfunctional and overrated team anyday. These types of teams don't suddenly "figure it out" in March. The Sweet 16 matchup looked very likely to be against a team that couldn't match up with UK's athleticism (Cornell, Wisconsin). Temple was the wild card. None were scary matchups for UK, IMO. West Virginia is a tough matchup. However, in the Elite 8, is anyone expecting an easy game? Finally, every other team (Kansas, K-State, Syracuse) that I really wanted to avoid as long as possible were slotted in the opposite side of the bracket. By seeding, a Duke/Villanova winner was a dream compared to playing a Syracuse/K-State winner.
March 24, 201016 yr Great post 5wide. I completely agree as well. I definitely wanted to see Louisville make it to the Sweet 16 and I honestly thought that they had a decent shot. I personally only like to see Louisville lose if they're playing UK.
March 24, 201016 yr What about this great comment from Forde. Kentucky has up to four freshmen who may go pro as soon as their season is over -- and some of them might have kissed off classes a long time ago, because second-semester grades don't impact in-season eligibility. Cornell has eight seniors with big-boy majors. link
March 24, 201016 yr What about this great comment from Forde. link What about this one? Now, there are many likable things about these Wildcats. Their coach spearheaded an effort to raise more than $1 million in relief funds for earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Many of the players have engaging personalities, and there are numerous stories in the commonwealth about how they've reached out to young fans, being generous with their time and gracious when encountered in public. They are fun to watch playing the game. And although they might not have the academic chops of the Cornell kids, some of them play genius-level basketball.
March 24, 201016 yr What about this great comment from Forde. link I wonder who will end up making more money in their lifetime. The big boys from Cornell or the 4 freshmen. Sure the 4 freshmen may end up bankrupt, but it'll be nice while it lasts.
March 24, 201016 yr Story I dont see anything wrong with his story. There is really nothing wrong with the story, because it is true. However its just how he is usually the only one, who always tries to find something negative about UK. If there is something negative, you can be sure he will write a story on it. He also never fails to mention in any of his articles about UK or Coach Cal about how he has two final fours taken away. Yes all this stuff is true, but you never see another guy really always say the same negative stuff all the time about a program or a coach. That is how he showing bias against UK. I know I am someone who usually doesn't get into the whole everyone hates UK, and is against UK. However when it comes to Forde, I am definitely with everyone else. He really does have a bias against UK and coach Cal.
