Not sure how well this will work out for Highlands. Being a coach relies heavily on one's ability to motivate and after hearing the worst motivational speech I have ever heard given to athletes, by Lorenzen last summer, I wouldn't take him on my staff, which pains me because I WAS a fan when he played!

Does Lorenzen teach or have a teaching degree?

At Highlands the kids are motivated before the coaches even get to them.

 

 

Didn't realize that motivational speech was such a high priority for coaching. It plays a part but I wouldn't not take a coach because he can't give a good speech. :idunno::ohbrother:

Not sure what the setting was for the motivational speech you heard him give, but I think you'd admit there is a big difference in speaking to a group in a public setting and providing coaching to a small group of high school football players. Jared will be in his "element" when he's coaching QBs at Highlands. Providing a motivational speech might not be his gig. I've heard a lot of very successful coaches speak publicly; a lot of them were terrible public speakers.

 

And I know this will come across as more "Highlands arrogance" but coaches at Highlands (and other successful programs throughout the state) really don't have to provide much if any motivation to the players. They have been motivated to win and do what it takes to win since they were young kids. What Jared has to do is teach them proper techniques and QB skills.

You must have a kid who plays on the 7th & 8th grade Red Team in the FTJFL. That's the only time Jared remembers addressing any team with a "Motivational Speech":lol: He said he would rather leave the "Motivational Speeches" up to Coach Merril Hoge!!! Trust me, it is something you wouldn't want to miss!!! Now...He said he has done speeches but nothing to "Motivate"...:isurrender: What else do you have?

Jared has been hired by Dale to coach Dale's way period. He will have the flexibility to go over his plan with Dale and they will agree (or Dale will) to handle the QB position as he seems fit. You wont have to worry about Jared giving motivational speaches this will be handled by Dale and Brian mainly with the other coaches helping were they can.

 

I think this is a great hire for Highlands and something the team has been lacking for some time when it comes to teaching the fundamentals of the Qb position. I really like what I saw from John Hardin before the State game when the QB's were working on the basics before the game and not just throwing the ball long.

Man the "shots" just keep coming. If you are a supporter of the program and have any lick of sense, you have to agree with the hiring. Seriously, who better to teach the kids on what it takes to become a better player and work towards the next level than a player that did it. Yed it takes talent and all, but he won't hurt anyone along the way.

 

Or maybe he already has. :idunno:

Highlands just keeps reloading, not only players but coaches as well.

I have played against, coached against and scouted Highlands many times over the years and those young men putting that jersey on, on Friday night motivates them enough to play football. They know what it takes to play football for Highlands High School. Congrats to Jared & Highlands it is such a win win situation for all. JD

Will Highlands now put in the "Falling backwards, throw the ball over your shoulder without looking" play?...that's one that might even be hard for Highlands to pull off.

Yeah, they you could add that, or the old 4th and inches "quarterback keeps the ball, drives into the scrum and pushes the line forward for a 4 yard gain" play.

The current QB is 6'5 220. That just might happen.
