Coach Carr believes in accountability, and holds his players accountable for their actions/play. Some parents take offense to this and the Scott administration seemingly agrees with them.

 

The good news is that Coach Carr is an established successful coach who will have no problem finding a coaching position, should the Scott admin pull the trigger on him.

If this is the case, where a coach is trying to do it the right way and the support is not there from the admininstration, why would he want to stay. You are correct, he is a heck of a coach, if he leaves, it would be a HUGE mistake, not going to find much better out there to replace him.

I think the man can flat out coach. If he leaves, Scott falls fom the top tier of the region to the middle of the pack.

I have known Brad Carr for a long long time. He's been very influential in my coaching. I might have the same inensity as him but he taught me very early on that you must be accountable for your actions and players must be held accountable also.

 

With that said, I've never seen him cross the line or be out of line while coaching. If he was to step down for family reasons then that would make more sense. But if he's asked to leave at Scott, it won't take long for them to be "just average" again. He's building a very nice program there at Scott.

I certainly hope he's not "on the hot seat" as many have stated, because before him, I honestly don't recall ever even hearing about Scott in any discussions of elite basketball programs in NKY?? I actually think he's mellowed significantly from his early years, and while he still can "get in someone's grill"; he seems to do so with a purpose, and then follows with positive reinforcement unlike his early years.

 

While removing him would be positive for the rest of the 37th district and 10th region; it would be a huge mistake for Scott HS!! They struggle to find an identity in most of their sports' programs, and this would set their hoops back for quite a while!!

 

Best of luck to Coach Carr, who's a really nice guy off the court, and a great competitor on it. If he departs, it will be a loss for NKY hoops, and boring to boot!!

Here is an individual who expects things to be done and done the right way and expects effort....essentially he has high expectations for his players and holds them accountable, something evidently the school itself does not if you would look at their school report card compared to the other two schools in the Kenton County School District.

 

He has been successful, the Eagle program is attracting more kids from the middle school feeder programs than ever before. That is an attribute to Coach Carr. These kids surely are not going to Scott to play football, so they are attracted to the Eagle Basketball program. Has this ever happened before? Highly unlikely. There is no other reason for these kids to matriculate to Scott academically or athletically when compared to the other high schools in the district. He must be doing something right.

 

Scott hoops has been fairly successful since Coach Carr has assumed the position and are arguably the 3rd best program in the region and are not too far from the top, as evidenced by their battles with GRC over the last few years.

 

Sad to see people caving to a couple parents who don't think Johnny is being treated fairly and sheltering them.

If Scott lets him go it would be in his best interest. No need for him to have to stay around a bunch of people that don't know what a great coach they have.

I just wonder what this says about Scott's Administration? If they don't see what he has done for the school and program then I'm not sure they are in the right position. If you attend their games on a regular basis and actually spend time around the program you know things are being done right. You will have some that are overlly sensitive but the overall positives by far outweigh the negatives.

^I don't think it would be for a NKY job as Scott is one of the better places to be at and hardly anywhere else would be an upgrade. It would have to be a more premier job at another school out of the area or maybe as an assistant on the college level.

I heard there was pressure to have him removed. Some said that when Scott and Highlands played he really embarassed the O'Conner's during a time-out when he chewed his big center Daniel out. Even the Highlands parents said they felt bad for the young man. And there have been other instances where he short-circuited and exploded on some of his other players past and present. I'm sorry but every single kid on the Scott High basketball team hasn't gotten it 10 times worse then what O'Conner had. Some kids can't handle it, I mean they are stoll 16, 17, and 18 years old.

What I mean is there are no top jobs "open" currently in the NKY area for him to take over unless a coach is fired or the position is vacated soon. Name a place currently that currently has no coach for the 2010/2011 season and is a better job than Scott right now in NKY. There isn't any currently.

To the best of my knowledge, the only open job currently in NKY would be Grant County, if you consider that NKY; so I guess you're right on that point??? The statement that "Scott is one of the better places to be at and hardly anywhere else would be an upgrade" is only true if you realize who made it that way--Coach Carr!!

 

Arguably there are several "better" jobs in NKY HS Hoops, but at the moment they aren't open--At the moment!! Sounds like this is a case of some parents unhappy that "Little Johnny" can't take a little heat?? Knowing quite a few of those in and around the Scott program for the last several years; those that "took the heat" were/are better players for the experience; and the program is undeniably better off during Carr's tenure!!

He was at SK my freshman year. I don't know too much about him as a coach, but most students I know liked him. He connects to kids pretty easily. I was a fan of him when I knew him.

If Carr leaves, Scott should be absolutely embarrassed for running off one of their best coaches. The guy has done alot for Scott and hasn't asked much for return. My son was an aid for Carr when he was in high school and he had nothing but nice things to say about him. He also was apart of the basketball team for a bit before focusing on Baseball but from what he told me, Carr seemed intimidating/demanding at times (occasionally even downright scary) but, like the others of mentioned, he holds the players accountable for what they do and when they do the right thing, he rewards them. The guy is a great coach and a great person and it would be a shame if he was no longer at Scott. The guy shows up at almost every Scott Athletic event to support the school whenever time allows for it. He is a great ambassador of the school and should be commended for what he has done.

I can now see why coaches get out of the profession by their own decision!!!
