From what I am hearing, he will remain at Scott if he wants to.

Funny thing is having been around Coach Carr since he arrived at Scott, I was thinking, and made the remark several times this year; how much he's mellowed on the sidelines since his first year or two?? If they didn't like his "antics" this year, what did "they" think in his first year or two??

 

Still think it would be a huge mistake on Scott's part to get rid of him; and I think it would definately set their program back significantly. Coaching is a very competitive profession, and most of those that enter into it are very passionate people--Occasionally most of them go farther than they'd probably like, but I also know for the most part Carr gets results.

And sometimes when they do, they leave it in the locker room!

Because you don't have paper thin skin. Good thing with all that negative reinforcement and all.

This isnt about sheltering kids from reality its about a coach who verbally abuses his players and does it publicly. Sure I was called some names by my past coaches and it was bad enough in front of other players but never treated disrespectfully during a game or in front of a crowd.

 

Glad you survived and are now a physician which really has nothing to do with this argument, people can be productive citizens in other ways but still have hatred for past coaches due to this type of treatment.

 

Lets just call a spade a spade here.

 

I just hope he can find an administration that will put up with it.

 

That's just it, I don't harbor ill feelings or hatred towards my old coaches. I have love and respect for them. They taught me the game of life along with my sport. I owe them gratitude for all they have done.

I, personally do not get too "over the top" with the kids but that's my personality. I do raise my voice and get stern from time to time.

I agree! Senior night he was the most mellow of all the games all year too!

Interesting that this seems to be a bigger issue at Highlands than it does at Scott.

This is a joke its even being discussed. I really think this thread should just be shut down. People are singling out kids and incidents by a coach. Who really knows the entire situation? Maybe this kid had been a problem in the past. Maybe the kid had been warned in practice about his mistakes time and time again. Maybe Coach Carr really does care about his kids. Maybe he doesn't care what parents are on other teams think. Or other programs think. You take what you get from Coach Carr. A good person and good coach.

I think it is OK to say Coach Carr and such in such a player had an issue and that players father runs the Eagle Club, but it is not OK to take shots at the player in question.

Id like to the know the specific names of "the powers that be" at Scott that want to fire Coach Carr. I might even write a letter and have my friends that graduated from Scott right a letter too. With all that said, everyone agrees Coach Carr is a great coach.

From the outside looking in, I think coach Carr has done a great job. He has also in a short time made Sccott an important part of the 10th.

The only thing I have heard is there were issues between him and some at Scott, and that it's up to him if he wants to leave. Turn up the heat too much, why would anyone stay? I think it would be a mistake to run him off.

1) As was asked by a few other posters, where was this parent when other kids on the team were yelled at? Or was everything fine until the coach yelled at their son? Where were the complaints a few months ago?

 

2) Does anyone know for sure if a parent actually complained about the coach?

 

3) If they did complain does anyone know how the school board reacted?

Who is the kid in question I hope you're not talking about the O'Connor's. Daniel is one of the nicest boys you'll ever meet and from what I have gathered they have not said a word its the administrators that are fed up with Coach Carr's antics. Good coach or not we all answer to our bosses unless you're self-employed or unemployed. If they tell you to stop yelling at your players you'd better stop being defiant and listen to them or find a job somewhere else.

Then again, Scott has more issues they need to tackle than this.

I believe, the highest dropout rate of the county schools....known as the party school...issues with things I can't talk about or they would be a rule violation...worst climate and culture than any of the county schools.
