I really don't understand the purpose of having them, other than for people who are too scared or don't know how to be independent. No matter what your opinion is, there is no need to insult just because it is not for you... Saying just because you are greek you are "too scared or don't know how to be independent" is uncalled for. Sterotyping a group of people, no matter what, is bad.
March 9, 201016 yr I think you guys should throw a "FRAT PARTY." ...yeah....and you could all come in baseball hats from the college that you go to, and khaki pants with a tucked-in t-shirt from the party that you threw last month. And at some point get the guy with kinda long hair to whip out his acoustic guitar and play everybody some white blues. And then you could get a couple of kegs of cheap cold ones and invite a buncha skinny blonde girls... :lol: :lol:

Good thing that the majority of our Presidents of the USA haven't felt the same as you. Also probably a good think that the majority of CEOs of Fortune 500 companies haven't felt the same as you either lol.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect that, but you sadly mistaken if this is your true opinion of fraternities and sororities. It was the best thing I ever did and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It has paid great dividends in so many different ways that I don't have time to explain right now. It is so unbelievably much more than paying for parties and/or friends.
March 9, 201016 yr My son is an SAE in Evansville. Being in a fraternity is what you make of it. Some of the things on his college resume, including leadership positions, have helped him greatly in pursuing scholarships and job opportunities. If you're nothing but a fraternity partier, it's a waste of time. If membership is utilized wisely, it can be a gold mine of opportunities. And, you could never call my son a follower. Very well said rockmom. If you want to join a fraternity and do nothing with your life and simply party...you can. But if you want to join a fraternity and use it as an opportunity to grow as a man, while also creating more opportunities for yourself in the future, you can do that too.

He and his friends manage to initiate successful parties (I have found out as I stalk them on facebook)! Still, wrapping someone in toilet paper and setting him on fire is incredibly stupid. Hitting a police officer who responded, even worse. I never cease to be amazed at how idiotic people can be.

March 9, 201016 yr I use to be in a Fraternity here at UK. I have nothing bad to say about it, because I felt like it was a really good experience, and I really enjoyed it. Yeah the parties are a good time, but there were a lot of other good things about it to that I enjoyed. Fraternity's do a lot of good things, and have been a big part in peoples lives. The main reason I ended up getting out of it was not because I wanted to, but was just because I couldn't afford it anymore. I had a four year scholarship, so after my fourth year here in college I didn't have that scholarship anymore. So I didn't have the money to pay for school and to be in the Fraternity. Yes Fraternity's are not for everyone, but there is nothing wrong if people choose to be in one.
