Really HB20? You're telling me that students don't have dumb themed house parties all the time for random events at all universities? Come on man. Baseball teams have their own houses and have similar parties, random kids who lived together freshman year in the dorms will move out together and have these type of parties. Happens all the time, and thanks to the lame show "Jersey Shore" people will have stupid fist pumping parties. People will do anything to have an excuse to throw a party, not just fraternities.

 

And do to my job, I've been to many universities all over the country.

... and Senators, and Governors, and congressmen ... actually, this might not have been the best way to illustrate your point, MJ, considering these are the folks responsible for dysfunctional Washington, a sagging economy and the good-ol boy system in general.

I talked to a kid in SAE tonight and he said he was one of the 8 guys kept around for questioning until 6 A.M. Basically, long story short, after the kid was lit on fire he went to the ground, and put it out fairly quickly, the fire extinguisher was used to kill the fire on the carpet and by that time the fire department was there along with officers. He also the kid that was charged with assault of the officer and punching him in the face was a completely stupid charge and the kid was woken out of his sleep at 4 in the morning and was just frantic and pushed the officers out of the way and that was the only charge that they shouldn't have receiver because all of the other ones were fair. That's all I have.

I don't know how many themed parties happen across the country. You seemed like an expert on the topic, that's why I was asking you.

 

I can't say that I've ever seen one in real life, because I've never been to one.

Maybe we read it differently, but from what I gathered it wasn't an assault-like push, more of a hectic, get me out of this day after Thanksgiving sale.

 

In all honesty, touching an officer, much like an official of a sport, is going to cost you.

He said it wasn't malicious he was just trying to avoid being taken out of bed for no reason and no punches were thrown and the whole situation was blow entirely out of proportion. Could you imagine 2 officers coming and waking you up at 4 in the morning in your dead sleep trying to grab you and pull you out of bed when you have no idea what's going on? When the police need you for something, you go. You don't push them because you don't want to get out of bed.

 

I'd say someone being set on fire is a good reason to get someone who may or may not have been involved out of bed.

 

And I'm sure the officers didn't walk in his room and pull him out of bed. I'd say they knocked on the door, until he opened it. Regardless, pushing someone who is clearly a police officer is very very stupid.

But the kid was frightened and was confused and they pulled him out of bed and he reluctant to get out of bed because he didn't know why. And I'm positive this guy wasn't involved. He was sleeping the entire time while 8 other morons watched.

If it is true that they woke him up and pulled him out of bed, I can totally see where he would be a little freaked out. You get woken up in the middle of the night (from a dead sleep perhaps), you're probably going to freak out no matter who is waking you up. It happens sometimes I would imagine.

Just my thoughts on this thread...

 

#1- Not all Frats and Frat guys are all about parties. Do Frat guys party? Sure many do. Probably no more than any other college students, maybe they just have the parties everyone wants to go to?

#2- I hate when Frat guys get defensive. Frats have a negative stereotype with some people and I think you just have to let it go. Ain't no sense in arguing over it. You as a Frat guy know what actually goes on in your group and those who are slamming it can't speak for every frat obviously.

#3- This was a crazy incident. Not much else to say about that.

#4- I can definitely see the police getting pushy and maybe even dragging someone out of bed, but there's no reason to hit them as nothing good can come from it.
