NOTHING is ever heard of the good things fraternities do, it is all stupid stuff like this. That is what gives fraternities bad names. To truely understand what a fraternity is about, you have to be in one, hands down. The people responsible for this should be seriously reviewed and probably kicked out of the chapter, if they do not lose their charter. One stupid thing messes up everything for everyone.

Some of the things people do to get into a fraternity amaze me. Some of the hazing ideas those in a fraternity come up with amaze me as well.

 

Not all fraternities haze, I can attest to that. I am in a non hazing fraternity, and I can tell you that not once as a pledge was I forced to do something.

I was just stating that I was never hazed. Fraternities have that reputation, I was just saying that I was proud that I was never.

I was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha at Morehead State and I can honestly say that we neither did nor remotely CONDONED this type of behavior.

Would you all like me to begin posting a thread for every time a fraternity does something good? Cause I can lol.

Depends on where you go to school. I am a Phi Delt. I loved being in the house w/ a lot of my teammates and members of our baseball team.

I had roommates as well. You don't have to be in a fraternity to live with people you like. :lol:

Great revelation. What I was saying is that it depends on the school you are at. At smaller schools, the houses are constituted by athletes, others by students. At some schools, it is easier to live off campus and most people don't want to have to go through all the stuff that you do to join a fraternity. Either way, I had a great experience with a fraternity, which consisted of a lot of teammates. Everyone was welcome into the house, and we didn't do any of the list party junk. Not all fraternities, even chapters, are close to the same.

Personally, I think all frats or fraternitys, or whatever you want to call them, are stupid and a waste of time. I really don't understand the purpose of having them, other than for people who are too scared or don't know how to be independent.

One of my best friends is an SAE at Kentucky, but he does not live in the house. He told me the whole story before it broke on the news. It was cool watching the 6 o'clock news with him when it was the main story, and it was cool that i knew some facts that were not on the news. It is sorry that all the guys lost the house because of the bad decision of a couple guys.

Personally, I think all frats or fraternitys, or whatever you want to call them, are stupid and a waste of time. I really don't understand the purpose of having them, other than for people who are too scared or don't know how to be independent.

 

 

My son is an SAE in Evansville. Being in a fraternity is what you make of it. Some of the things on his college resume, including leadership positions, have helped him greatly in pursuing scholarships and job opportunities. If you're nothing but a fraternity partier, it's a waste of time. If membership is utilized wisely, it can be a gold mine of opportunities. And, you could never call my son a follower.

Saint, that is not entirely true. Most people are all too well aware of all the good things fraternities and sororities do in terms of community service. However, it's what they're supposed to do. It's expected.

 

As MJ noted, there are lots of examples of good things fraternities do. The reason it's not news is because it's not out of the ordinary. It would be like writing a news story about the sanitation department each week they pick up my trash.

 

The reason it's news when a fraternity or its members acts up is because it doesn't happen that often. When it does, it's news. Unless, of course, you're aware of some major Time magazine expose' on unruly Greeks dominating the news with reports of bad behavior.

I think you guys should throw a "FRAT PARTY." ...yeah....and you could all come in baseball hats from the college that you go to, and khaki pants with a tucked-in t-shirt from the party that you threw last month. And at some point get the guy with kinda long hair to whip out his acoustic guitar and play everybody some white blues. And then you could get a couple of kegs of cheap cold ones and invite a buncha skinny blonde girls... :lol:
