Masburn or Mercer weren't graduating. I think in a unique situation such as Patterson's where he is set to graduate from the University an exception should be made.

 

I agree. I think seniors and graduates. If he can graduate in 3 years and is turning pro or not playing another year. Did Michael Porter go through senior day last year?

If a kid in high school is accelerated and skips a grade in high school, after he/she finishes his 3rd year, is he not a senior either? No, he's a senior because he/she earned it.

Senior Day is for seniors only. Period.

 

I certainly feel there should be some sort of Patterson simply because of his accomplishment in graduating early. Not because he's going on to the NBA, nor for any other player that may/may not go to the NBA. First of all, you can't count your chickens before they hatch. We all know Wall is a done deal, but what about players like Blesoe. Do you include them or not? Why do we want to celebrate one and done... not that I'm not thankful WE got those types of players for a year. (I personally believe in different rules, but that's another issue)

 

If a player is drafted and decides to leave early, some sort of celebration can be held then. Not in conjunction with the season in any way.

 

Patterson.... deserves recognition, but separate from those moments that are reserved for the specialness of just being a senior.

 

 

What constitutes a Senior? Is it based on years in the school, or credit hours accumulated? IMO, those recognized as seniors for basketball purposes may be different than those that are seniors in the student body.

For basketball, it should be those graduating or those who have exhausted their eligibility IMO. If a player has rec'd enough credit hours to get his degree as long as he is not returning to play ball the next year, he should be honored as a senior. Since Ppat is graduating, then he should be honored. For the one and done's, they are neither graduating nor have exhausted their eligibility, so they should not be.

They're STUDENT athletes. Not athletes that happen to have a few classes. If academics always come first, and on paper for the school he's a senior, AND he's a lock for going to the NBA draft, I see no reason why you couldn't make an exception. Of course I don't want Wall and Cuz being honored, that's a given. Pat's a different situation and I see no problem in letting him be honored.

Nope. Still have a lot of friends down at school that get me them.

If a player is graduating then let them take part in senior day activities.

So it should be called "4 year players" Day?

 

Because technically Pat is a senior.

Senior day has changed when underclassman can make multi millions the next year. Recognize all kids you want to thank and say good bye too.

But academically he is a senior. As was mentioned above, how many seniors are recognized only to turn out they did not graduate? Patterson is academically a senior, and will graduate this spring, in just three years! So some want to punish a kid because he is smart, put in the time in the classroom and studying? He is a great example for kids as a student athlete.
