Where was the gym in Washington at? What is there now?

Another nice large gym is located in Henry County in the 8th region. If I'm not mistaken it may be the largest in the state. The 8th regional tourney is held here every year.

When you turn off 68 to go back to Laurel Oaks , it sit on the right as soon as you turned off 68.

Great article. I moved to Maysville in 1958 and became a true fan of the Maysville Bulldogs. I loved that school and loved to go to their ball games. What spirit they had with Mr Fearis and that band he had.

 

I have a couple of albums by the MHS orchestra somewhere in the house, circa late 60s, Mr. Fearis directing. Seems like half the school must have participated.

They had a great high school band. It took up about 1/2 of one side of the Maysville gym. He was such a good director. He always wore that white suit when he directed.:ylsuper:

In all seriousness I have a lot of respect for the fieldhouse and the class that Mason Co administration conduct themselves with as hosts. The 10th Region Tournament is a 1st Class Event. I still like the rotation of sites, but Mason Co. has proven time and time again that they know how to effectively run the tournament.

 

Quality building; quality people running it.

I think evidence of its funding sources might be found by observing the wording on the facade of the building - Something like "Mason County Physical Education and Fine Arts Center."

 

If it was funded through a tax levy I'm sure it was promoted as a mult-purpose facility.

 

99% of the fine arts piece involves dribbling, passing, and shooting a basketball.

 

The Mason County Fieldhouse is a local and regional treasure. We are very lucky to have it. :thumb:

You took the words out of my mouth Mustang, treasure that truly is what the place is anybody who has witnessed or played a game in the facility! I think it's one of the greatest basketball venues not only in our state but the entire country, especially when it's packed and rockin!

Good one, but the first mention is actually in Exodus 20.

 

"You shall not covet your neighbor's Fieldhouse..."

The old Trimble Co. gym -- which is now the middle school gym, I think -- was decent sized and was used instead of the newer HS gym when TCHS hosted the district during my HS days 20 years ago. I think the old Trimble gym predates the '60s, though.

 

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would share a little about the Trimble County gym. This gets a little confusing. The current TCHS was built and opened in the early 1970s. It housed the high school until 1981 when a new school was completed. This school became the high school and Trimble County Middle moved into the high school. Sometime in the mid to late 1990s, the middle and high schools swapped as the older building made a much nicer high school than the new building did. Now, as far as gyms go, the Raiders play in the high school gym built in the early 70s. Even when they were at the newer building with a smaller gym, most games during that period were played at the gym built in the 70s. It seats around 2,200 and had lighting upgrades and floor restoration just a few years ago. See, I told you this was confusing.

My late grandmother was from maysville, so this thread is interesting. The fieldhouse is a very nice facility.

I have worked many games in the Fieldhouse including Districts and Regionals and yes I truly love it. I am blessed to have the position that I have and do not take it lightly.

Was their fieldhouse open for the 1964-5 season? I remember a family member who was on Trinity's JV team that season saying that they played in a brand new, big gym, and I can't remember if he said it was Mason or Trimble. Does Trimble have a comparable facility? By the waY, he said Trinity JV got pounded.

 

In regards to Trinity's location the big gym they may have played in was Henry County High School. They have a big facility that was built in the 1950's or 1960's.
