Origins of the Mason County Fieldhouse?

The first game in the Fieldhouse was January 15, 1965 which is in the 64-65 season. The game was against Ripley, Oh. and I believe Fred Hester scored the first basket in the JV game. The first Kentucky team to play was, of course, who else but Maysville Bulldogs.

Thanks.

The fieldhouse at Mason Co was not open in 1964. They practiced in the old Washington gym and may have played some games there also. I remember the district was in the Maysville gym through the mid to late 60's.

My bad, the fieldhouse was open in the 1964-65 season but the district was held at Maysville that year. It was held at Mason Co the following year, the 1965-66 season. Wasn't Herb Childers the coach that followed Ryan.

How long was it before Maysville was absorbed by the new Mason Co HS?

1990-1991 was the last year Maysville High School was open. Maysville was an independent district and had consolidated themselves the year prior, but they kept the school open until the next year.

What is the seating capacity of the Fieldhouse? I hear different numbers all of the time. Also, I am curious as to what the population of Mason County is and what it was when the Fieldhouse was built. Finally, while it is a great facility, I have been there a few times and it is never anywhere near sold out, notwithstanding large crowds. Was there ever a time or times when this facility was sold out? Maybe that was common back in the day when more folks came out for high school basketball games. If anyone can shed some light on these questions I would appreciate it.

The Fieldhouse has been sold out many times and if you want to see another sold out game is if Clark Co plays Mason on Saturday night, it will be packed. If they play in the finals on Monday, not sure if it will sell out on a Monday night.

Waldo, Not a 100% sure, but I believe the District in the 64-65 season was played at Mason County. Childers started at Mason in the 63-64 season.

I believe they had to turn people away a few years ago when Pendleton Co. went to state.

You're probably right, but I was thinking it was played at Maysville a year after Mason's gym was built.

We are all blessed by this great structure.

I'm sure its origins can be found in Genesis.

They did.

You're are correct on the Pendleton County deal, matter of fact many from Falmouth had bought tickets at PCHS only to drive to Maysville and still be turned away with tickets in hand for the 05 final. As far as seating capacity old figures used to state 7,000 with the seats on the stage rolled out and no marked isles in the lower area. Fire marshalls came up with this new figure of 5,200 a couple of years back with new standards in place.

Great article. I moved to Maysville in 1958 and became a true fan of the Maysville Bulldogs. I loved that school and loved to go to their ball games. What spirit they had with Mr Fearis and that band he had.
