There will be more staff changes for UK football next season (Coach Ortmeyer and maybe Coach Brown), and Coach Phillips is savy enough to look to get a coach with extensive ties to southwestern Ohio recruiting.

 

It will be very interesting to see who he targets to lead up this focus. The really strange thing about him not focusing on the city while he was in charge of recruiting is that he spent time at UC as an assistant under Minter, so there should have already been a foundation built from that period...

No doubt. He knows he is going to come in and swoop up every recruit in the area that he wants. He's been around long enough and knows that's how it works.

Joker spent extensive time in South Carolina and Georgia and those two states are starting to reap some harvest for UK.

 

Coach Brooks put Chuck Smith in Ohio and I don't think that is the right match, especially for Cincinnati.

 

My guess is Joker will spend a lot less time on the road recruiting and Coach David Turner will pick up for him in the southern states. Joker might be thinking of covering Cincinnati himself to attempt to make some inroads.

I just don't see why you're so up in arms about it. You, me, and everyone else on here know that Joker realizes the struggle UK will have to recruit in Cincinnati (or any other area). I don't see what's so hard about the subject. I'm thinking that you're not comprehending what Joker meant. He was not saying that UK was going to dominate Cincy area recruiting, he said he was going to make it a goal.

 

Just like UC football probably has a goal to become a top level national program. It's probably never going to happen, but that' doesn't stop Coach Jones from dreaming about it and trying to accomplish it does it?

One of the big keys is television. Cincinnati kids grow up watching Big Ten, Notre Dame, and UC football. Funny, that is where nearly all the kids end up going to school.

However, you can't hardly switch the channel looking for a football game and not run into an SEC broadcast.

 

Today's plethora of viewing options negates the local TV argument.

I think that's more of "being a fan of how you were raised" rather than the TV argument. I watch UK play once a week and also watch about 10 other games. I'd imagine recruits are the same way. ND having its own TV network is no longer a big deal.

I think it's great. Two solid recruits out of the Greater Cincinnati area this year. It's a great goal and there's no reason NOT too recruit in an area that has some of the best high school football in the country when it's right up I-75.
