If I had to pick anyone, it would likely be ND, but the flow of kids in the city has gone in cycles. UC is very strong now with Coombs out front locally, but so far it has mostly resulted in the top of the 2nd tier. It got close to a breakthrough this year, but BK leaving halted the momentum a bit.

 

BC did a great job here when O'Brien was able to use his GCL ties, but he hasn't been a factor at NC State.

 

ND with BK is now even more of a factor in the city. The problem there is the ND fan base wants "national" talent and is already very vocal about 2nd tier level kids from the city getting so much interest.

 

Alex Smith has deep ties to the state of KY to go with his mom that was trying to push him to UK all along and obviously Miles Simpson is not from Cincinnati.

 

If Joker plans to focus serious efforts into the city to land 2 or 3 kids with maybe 1 of them being in that top tier does it really sound like a smart recruiting focus to you? Is the next move adding Specht to the staff???

The key to tapping even a small amount of talent in Cincinnati on a regular basis is someone directly tied to the football community in the city. Who is that person on the UK staff? Who does he expect to fill that role???

I think KY has done a good job in state and GA. I look for them to start doing better in Fla. I don't see any problem with trying to pull a couple kids from Cincy/Indy/Knoxville since they are all pretty close.

I pointed out OSU because I had always heard they came down and got some of the top prospects in the area, clearly I was wrong. Easy on the "I know more about Cincinnati sports than anybody ever" stuff. We all already know. My apologies.

I like the attitude. I don't think Joker thinks they have a shot at "owning" Cincinnati, especially with OSU so close. There's no reason UK can't make a splash though. He is all about recruiting, I like it.

Did he say it in an interview with a major outlet as a joke? How else am I to take it? He literally said we need to "own Cincinnati". I won't get into him treating the UK base in NKY as if the region is somehow Cincinnati by proxy.

There is a ton of talent in Cincy. I agree that it would be hard for any team to 'own Cincy'. But my point is only that I love the attitude. I would love to see more talent from the Greater Cincinnati Area end up wearing UK Blue.

I don't see that at all. Joker was in charge of the recruiting. I think he is just admitting that UK as a whole sort of lost focus on the hotbed of talent that is in the GCA.

I think it's more of a philosophy. Like Miami owning the state of Miami. Shannon knows he isn't going to keep every kid in SFL, or probably even 75% of the ones he wants, but you have to try and make it a goal. I'm sure Joker is well aware of the Cincinnati recruiting landscape.
