The statement is a little bit of a shot at how the previous coach treated the city.

 

Wasn't he in charge of recruiting and the coach in waiting on said staff? If this is an early hint at actually doing what it takes to land more talent in the city, it's a smart move. As a hollow statement out of nowhere it's laughable...

And I'm serious about Specht. If you really want to make a splash up here, that's how you do it...

That is how I took it. Otherwise he is not very smart or misspoke.

I don't see that at all. Joker was in charge of the recruiting. I think he is just admitting that UK as a whole sort of lost focus on the hotbed of talent that is in the GCA.

I just think he is making the statement saying he is really going to focus on Cincy. I don't know if anybody will "own" it. Like you said BK was probably that guy. Maybe with him gone from the backyard they think they can steal another couple kids from there. It's close and UK is the closest school in the best confrence in America. I don't think it's going to hurt to put out some more effort there.

I get where you are coming from. Own is a reach but I think he is just saying we've got to really work hard on being better in that area. I'm glad he's aggressive. I think he has enough connections in the state + south that it can only do good to try to be a player in Cincy too.

No team dominates Cincinnati. The GCL schools are building a connection with ND. OSU will try to cherry pick the elite talent but does not rely on Cincy. Elder sends a lot of guys to Cincy who are under the ''elite bar." There are a lot of good football players who will go that route and end up there or a Miami, Bowling Green, IU. Joker could find some serviceable guys in Cincy but I think he should attack Louisville. Joker is after a linebacker from Colerain who has a few big offers including ND, WV, UC. No OSU offer yet. Maybe he can bring him to Lex.

If Kentucky hires Specht, it sounds like it would really help out recruiting in the region but isn't Joker's staff full as it is? Although I'm sure they could find a place for him anyways if they were to extend an offer.

 

Kentucky was able to hire Tee Martin which is a big help as he has some good connections to the Atlanta area and with him around, he will be able to sell the Kentucky name to the kids down there and bring up even more talent. So far, I like what Joker is bringing to the table. He has made recruiting his main goal and him trying to turn up the heat on the city of Cincinnati as well confirms that. The main is working hard thus far and saying all theh right things as well..

And that's my point. Saying it and doing it in terms of what it takes to have an impact in Cincinnati are two different things. Simply being down the road, and having a large alumni base across the "moat" aren't going to make that happen. I like what Joker has done so far in the hires he has made, but none of them at this point are going to do anything other than put his foot in his mouth over this comment...

His "dream" school is ND and Coombs is his lead guy for UC. No leader yet, but I don't get any kind of "SEC love" out of him to this point...

I agree with everything you have just said. He is making some very good moves right now but all we can do at this moment is just sit back and wait and see if those moves will pan out. He wants to turn up the heat on Cincinnati and hopefully he will be able to do that, but when its all said and done, its not what you say but what you actually are able to accomplish that matters.
