And reading into the bolded part of your post the sarcasm that I believe is intended, that's fine that you feel that way. On the other hand if playing football was important to a young son of mine and Highlands hired a head coach that I thought was a very poor role model for him or was conducting practices in an unsafe manner and I couldn't get the head coached removed, I'd strongly consider transferring him to another school just like I'd consider transferring him if I decided his science, math etc teachers weren't getting it done. And no before any one suggests it, I am not in any way implying such was the case with Mitchell at CovCath. Just pointing out that, at least for me, there are valid reasons why I'd want to transfer my son.

I have participated in this discussion since page one and it has gotten nowhere. The original topic was the issue of Highlands challenging the ruling by the KHSAA and I still stand by saying that they should be happy with what they received. There are many posters on here that are obviously still disgruntled over the issue and have a sour taste in their mouth when they think of the Birds. But I don't believe it has tainted their reputation because no one has been discussing this matter the past four years. Let it go! :ohbrother:

You can be certain of one thing: if Highlands had a coach that I thought was a bad role model for my son and the other players or I thought he was conducting practices in a manner that I thought unnecessarily endangered my son and his teammates, I'd express my concerns directly to him. If he continued to conduct himself in the same manner, I'd be talking to the principal. If that failed, I'd be talking to the school board. If that failed I'd be thinking transfer as obviously my assessment was not shared by the others in the school. No doubt about it and I make no apologies for it.

 

As I oft stated, I have a lot of respect for coaches, but I've seen some that I'd never let my sons play for. Period. I have a lot of respect for coaches and the time, effort and committment they put into the program, but I do not in any way think the football program is "their program". Maybe its different in Ft. Thomas but the football program is the town's program; its the current players' program; its the former players' program and its the future players' program. And if I thought a coach was harming that program, you are darn tooting right, I'd try my dangest to get him removed. Fortunately, I've never had to deal with that issue and don't expect to ever have to deal with it.

The only ones who might have a tainted reputation from this mess is the KHSAA. Thankfully, they saw the error of their ways and took steps to correct it.

Second you want him to stay at Cov. Cath. where he was unhappy and I can tell you first hand there were numerous things that he was unhappy about at Cov Cath (I will not go into what they are because I do not want to give out information that might reflect bad on people or institutions).

I disagree with the point that you make that this discussion has gotten nowhere. My main point of posting on this board is to get the facts out. There were a large number of times where people did not know Mitchell eventually became eligible. That is the main point of the whole letter to begin with which is to ask for the wins back. And the reason they were taken away was for an ineligible player that ended up being eligible, according to the court which are above the KHSAA etc. etc.

My last post on this. Whether he was ultimately found eligible or not, his ultimate reason for transferring was athletic. Not once has anyone mentioned that he felt unchallenged by or unhappy w/ CovCath's curriculum. What his family did was send him to the school that they felt gave him the best chance of reaching his ultimate goal. The intent, was unethical by the nature of the law. It was legal by the letter of the law. It worked out for everyone as Highlands got their state title and Mitchell got his scholarship. The KHSAA didn't like the way everything went down and punished one of its members. The thing that keeps this thing from getting finality w/ those outside of Fort Thomas is that this whole thing never ran its due course in the judicial system on the merits. It did on procedure. The COA didn't throw this out and say that the KHSAA had no case based on the facts, it said that since Mitchell was out of school, there was no case or controversy to be decided so they would waste their time. Therefore, the local circuit court's decision is the final decision and people are skeptical of it. Highlands needs to just let this go. Again, I would have done the same thing as the Mitchells did for their son if mine was as talented as he. However, a controversial move will have ramifications. Now, I'm done.
