Downey backed up his "Bring it on" challenge

Featured Replies

I don't know about the walks but Downey got several foul calls that I am still trying to find the contact on.

And there were two walks called on UK that absolutely were not walks. The one on Cousins underneath he never moved his pivot foot. And the one on Wall where he split the defenders on the other side of halfcourt was not a walk.

But no whining about the refs. They didn't lose this game UK did. A little too much mustard on several misplays including two of the missed layups. Lazy help defense. Poor rotation on defense. The lazy, incidental turnovers that happen every game mattered in this one.

Too late for that huh?

Don't let a couple of bad apples spoil it. I thought SC got more favorable calls but certainly not enough to determine the game.

The offensive goal tending call on Orton right after there should have been a defensive goal tend call on SC was reaaalllly bad.

I agree. I did think that the foul call Wall got on the three point play was more situation than contact.

There certainly was a lot of ball on that one. I agree.

No whining there. Just comments without blame. I think I stated pretty well the reasons for the loss and it wasn't the guys in stripes. Next jab?

What is Downey's record against UK. I'm willing to bet it is among the best ever for an SEC player

I know he's won the last 3, but I would think the seniors from Florida's 2nd National Championship team hold that record.

Good player but flops more than Vlade Divac.

When your 4'6 you gotta do what you gotta do. That MAN can ball.

The inability to pick up defensive rebounds is ultimately what did Kentucky in last night. South Carolina shot 34% on 66 shots and still beat Kentucky? Downey missed 20 shots. He is a tremendous player, no question, but he didn't single-handedly beat Kentucky. The Cats played not to lose rather than going out to get a tough road win.

If my memory is correct, Lee Humphrey and Richard (I believe) were the 2 seniors on that team. I know they won their final 6 against UK. I am thinking they were 6-2.

Counting in my head, Downey is 3-2.

No doubt, good call. A lot of Downey's goofy high arching shots led to goofy high arching rebounds. But rebounding normally comes down to effort, and UK did not display that.

Tennessee won 5 straight vs. UK from '75 to '77. That Senior Class was Ernie Grunfeld and Mike Jackson with early pro Bernard King. I'd say their accomplishment was greater. Those three UK teams were: National Runner-up, Elite eight and NIT Champions. :thumb:

I agree the lack of defensive rebounds hurt but I think UK lost the game on offense. They had too many turnovers again and shot almost as poorly as USC. They need to get the half court offense fixed (and find a #3) or their hopes for a title will go the same way as the USC game did.

That I agree with. But USC just outplayed UK. It is really as simple as that. They wanted it more and got it done. The Cats have to use this as a valuable lesson.

Given the results last night, I am still very pleased with 19-1 and highly ranked with a new coach and a bunch of young players. It will be interesting to see how they respond to getting smacked last night.
