Lane Kiffin to USC

IMO it's pretty low to tell guys on campus not to go to class tomorrow.

Hiring Lane Kiffin would be questionable to me if he didn't have a dynamite recruiter like Ed Orgeron coming with him along with his father-the greatest defensive mind arguably ever, and Norm Chow who is one of the best offensive minds of the last 20 years at the college level. USC will be just fine if hey can just get Lane, Monte, and Coach O, but if they can get Chow to move across town, I think Kiffin will have USC right where they were in 2005, and possibly even better.

I understand about kids who haven't yet signed their commitments, but some of these kids were ready to start class this semester, .. today in fact.

I guess I have to admit that my disgust for Kiffin makes this seem even worse for me than it probably should.

True, still though most kids came for Kiffin and Co. USC has only like 14 commits right now so he's got to try to fill the class.

With his father and Chow does he rally have to do anything? I might look like a coach with those two on my staff.

Possibly after they recover from POSSIBLE violations. If they did it, I hope they get nailed.

I figure that my mother could win at USC with Chow and Monte on staff. :thumb:

Getting away from Florida and Alabama will help the mouth out. Would be very hard to over take those two programs. USC is already best program year in and year out in PAC 10.

They haved been, ... but they certainly were not this year.

If there were a stock car race between all the frauds, egomaniacs and two-faced weasels I've ever covered, Lane Kiffin would have the pole position all to himself.

Kiffin is a spin doctor without a medical degree. He thinks truth comes in different shades of gray. He demands loyalty, but gives none himself.

Kiffin is a used car salesman with a whistle. Wait, that's not fair to used car salesmen. He ditched Tennessee for USC after just 13 games. The remaining five years on his contract, the players he left behind, the nine high school recruits who planned to enroll early, they all meant nothing to Kiffin.

According to someone who was in the room, the Tuesday night farewell meeting between Kiffin and the Tennessee players was "very, very, very hostile." Kiffin told them that coaches come and go, that USC was his dream job. The players, orphaned after less than 14 months, responded angrily.

Personally I think more of the blame goes on UT's AD than Kiffin. It is his dream job and one of the top 3 in the country. I don't blame him one bit for taking it. UT went with a flashy pic rolling the dice and now they are caught with their pants down.

Kiffin is arrogant but he will be one of the best in the country. He can recruit..he gets coaches that can recruit..Monte is his DC and Norm Chow is his OC. There are few duo's in history any better X+O wise than those two guys!

He has set the table to do amazing at USC. The one thing I would worry about if I was USC is the death penalty. He went and stirred the pot at UT where things were calm now he's walking into a program that the NCAA is on like flies on stink! That would scare me some if I was USC!

He's ridden the coattails of his old man but he is notorious for working hard. He's arrogant but has swagger. I think it's a great hire for USC.

Tenn is going to have to fire cash at a big name. I think Cutcliff is the fall back but they are in bad shape recruiting if that happens IMO. Muschamp is the hot name. He's got a tough decision. Wait for a top 2 job in football or take the money + run hoping you can go back. He has no idea how long Mac will be there.

CCC, not many kids in the Southern region go out to the West Coast and vice versa. To have kids commit to the school, who is paying you, then leave and by the way ask the kids to come to, well someone used the word "Class".

Not many parents/family/friends can travel across country to watch their loved ones play, not unles your are Reggie Bush and someone finds your family a car/house/eating money for four years. You leave the kids alone, they know where you are going to and if they still want to follow they have until February 3rd.

Kiffin has a career 12-21 record and has been able land the coaching job at two of them best programs in the country. I will never figure that out.
You're going to hold his record with the Raiders against him? Has anybody won there lately?

I may be in the minority, but I think the guy can coach. I thought he did a good job there and at Tennessee.

I'm as big a Lane hater as anyone...said from day 1 he would be there a very short time and bolt as soon as something came open, but let's not kid ourselves guys...his staff didn't do anything that most wouldn't or haven't done. His "loyalties" lie with where is check is signed. Let's not play holier than thou now. College football is big boy business. Plain and simple.

The ex Vols coaches/USCs have contacted the Vol verbals and asked them to look at USC. This would make me madder than anything. Already two verbals have decommitted. Nine were already to enroll into the school to start classes. The NCAA is still doing work on the Vols using the ladies in recruiting.

This happened to us back in 03, they can bounce back but this next hire has to be a home run. The Vols had the highest payroll for the whole staff in the nation. Presser at 4 EST.

WNOX radio was reporting this morning that Kiffin and Ogeron (sp?) were calling UT recruits last night and asking them to commit to USC. This was before current players even knew he was leaving. They also reported that Kiffin and staff had told players coming in this semester that they should not attend classes... thought being that if they never attended classes they could transfer this semester and be a late term transfer to USC and not have to sit out a year.

Does anyone know if Fugate was contacted by Kiffin or Staff last night....or were they leaving him for UT?
