Some one asked me yesterday why is what Reid said racist. I tried for 10 mins to explain why but never came up with a good argument. The more I thing about it the more I am in the camp of it wasn't rasict.

I think that's a very skewered portrayal of the facts. It could also be portrayed as he said something nice about a man who had dedicated many many years of service to the country and who was approaching the end. He just didn't think it out in detail enough before he said it.

As I said earlier, it's played out about how I expected. There are always justifications as to why "what my guy did was somehow different than what your guy did so it's ok."

The Democrats also idolize an old man who is currently serving in the Senate who was a big muckety muck in the KKK. How is that any less offensive then saying something nice about Thurman on his birthday?

Like you said his comment is out of touch and not a very smart one. A mistake that could be made by a D or an R. But what most see as offensive is that it seems to be overlooked/allowed/okay if you have a D in front of your name, but not if you have an R.

 

I do not think Reid is a racist, but would the same people defending him be defending Mitch McConnell if it came out of his mouth? No... That is what is offensive. Politics...

No, it's because they know he couldn't be beaten in his home state. It's the same reason why Ted Kennedy, Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond and other lifers kept their seats for eternity.
