January 6, 201016 yr If she breaks it off or cheats or whatever, there is something where you can petition to get it back if she refuses. Really depends on how valuable the ring is. If the guy was the cheater or did something to cause the break up then it's doubtful he could petition for the ring.

January 6, 201016 yr I actually took a law class in college and we talked about this. The acceptance of the engagement ring is essentially a verbal contract and if the contract is not met for any reason the ring must be given back or they face legal action. So basically if the wedding doesn't take place, the ring has to be given back or you could sue to get it back.
January 6, 201016 yr If the couple isn't married yet I see no reason not to give the ring back regardless of who did what. If you split up before a marriage the man is entitled to anything of significant value that he has bought, as is the woman. I'm currently engaged and my fiancee bought me a new sectional for Christmas. If I were to cheat on her, she cheats on me, ect. I would give her the couch (or reimburse her for the purchase) and I would expect my ring back.
January 6, 201016 yr My roommate just got engaged 3 weeks ago....He did it when he did, because he said he didn't want it to be on a holiday or special day, so the ring couldn't be seen as a gift. :lol: That way if they break it off, he gets the ring back. :idunno:
