December 29, 200916 yr Author Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the term "pumping gas" came from how some of the first pumps were designed. Motorists actually had to use a hand lever to physically pump fuel up into a tall, glass cylinder that had graduated marks to denote how much liquid was in the container. Once they got to the desired amount, they could stick the nozzle in their car's gas tank, and gravity would feed the fuel down the hose into the car. :idunno: http://gaspumpgarage.com/images/pumps/gas%20pumps%20010.jpg

December 29, 200916 yr We still have a rotary phone in our basement that is hooked up and functional.Whatever floats your boat, trips your trigger, blows your dress up, paints your wagon, shines your shoes, baits your hook, trims your tree, turns your crank, rings your bell, skips your rope, steams your buns, yanks your chain, cranks your tractor, pops your cork.... Oh, I almost forgot, whatever flicks your bic.
