The price of a state title is at an all time high also. The players have been paying for those rings since the 4th grade . They have sacraficed , broken bones , blown out knees , injured elbows , and the sweat of two a days in August. Most high school football players are thrilled to get one ring , this group of seniors have enough rings to open a jewelry store.

 

Don't get me wrong , I'm not bragging , I'm just so proud of the players and coaches of this team. This is not just about football , this is a tribute to the parents , who raised these young men , to represent Highlands and Ft. Thomas in a very positive way.

 

In closing I would like to thank the players for the accomplishments that they have achieved , and I thank the coaches for all their time and effort, and finally for all the thrills on those Friday nights. :clap:

Well there is an alternative its not like gold or none. 2,000 is a lot of money right now and my guess is the profit is around 500-600 on the ring.

I know I've gone around with Henry and FC on this one before, but, I say this in all honesty, and really not as a jab to anyone: Does anyone else think that some of the ring designs could at least be pared back a bit? I really mean that with all due respect to the six teams who won this year, and all the teams who've won in the past.

 

I just feel like...wow, 600 bucks a pop, times at least 100 rings per team, times six classes - that's easily over a third of a million dollars spent on state rings in Kentucky alone. I guess you could see that as an "economy booster", but I see it a little more as frivolous spending, to be honest.

 

I mean, get the rings, sure (Henry & FC, I'll have you know I'm relatively more favorable to the idea following our debate :notworthy: ), but is the size, and furthermore, the expense really necessary? I'll readily admit that my state ring is rather gaudy and over-sized...which, frankly, leads to my wearing it so seldom.

 

Couldn't things be a little more simple?

 

I realize that to some the ring may not mean as much as it does to others. However, it isn’t like a class ring where everybody has one. Only 1% or 2% of high school football players win a state championship and the ring is a symbol of that success, although I agree that $2000 is too much and I would suspect that most people would not buy the gold ring unless their financial situation allowed for it. I would suspect that some schools have fund raisers to help offset the cost or the boosters help out.

 

As far as the third of a million dollars, I’m going to invest in Jostens now that I think about it.

A - buy a ring because you never know when you might be on a team that wins another title AND everyone plays a role on a team that wins a championship -- whether it is during practice all year or on FRI night when the fans are in the stands

 

OR

 

B - pass on this ring and dedicate yourself to winning a state championship that you are a bigger part of / when you are a senior and it is a culmination of your contribution since you were a FR

IMO....If you're on the team you played a part in the State Championship. There are many ways to help a team other than on the field. One that comes to mind is......playing the other teams offense, defense, or special teams during practice to help prepare your starters are a big part. There's many ways at looking at it. To me Football is a team sport and everyone wins, when the team wins.:thumb:

Not a tough decison if. More of a challenge how!

 

My 4th son as a Frosh, elected to move up to varsity and received the '07 ring. Then as a Soph, got the '08 ring and he will get another this year as a Junior. His goal was to have more state rings than his three older brothers... mission accomplished. Also, NEVER take for granted that you will win State the next year! Unless...

The way I see it, if you are part of the team, you are a part of the team, there is no insignificant roles, there is only "the team".

 

So, are you part of the team? If the answer is "Yes", then you get a ring if you win a championship. Would he have felt any less heart broken if they would have lost?

The team is the team. Whether the contributions were on the field on Friday night under the bright lights or they were made on the practice field as a member of the scout team.......the contributions were made and Highlands finished the season at 15-0 with a NATIONAL RANKING of 2, highest of any Kentucky team ever (unless I'm wrong).

I went with A. I was a Soph when my team won a state title (2004 St. X tigers) and if i hadn't got one then i wouldn't have gotten another one. I played scout team all year and got to dress a hand full of games that season. But I put in the same amount of time as the Jr's, and Sr's did and took my share of bruises as well. It's one thing that a kid shouldn't miss out of because they think there will be another chance.... So i say get it.

I think they are beautiful rings! I am tickled to death to buy my son one this year! I do however think the schools should contribute to buying the rings, these boys bring in alot of money for the schools! I know Im gonna get alot of ugly PMs for this but I know in our neck of the woods the parents and Coaches work endlessly at fundraisers to keep the football team floating. Football brings alot of attention to our school, these boys went out there every Fri night and took a beating for our entertainment. I think they should be rewarded, again JMO! But Im happy to have the chance to buy my son his! Highlands your ring is gorgeous! Congrats on your wonderful season(s)!

Good post Rebel, who decides if a certain athlete played an important enough role to get a ring.

 

To the Highlands folks that is one sharp ring. And if you can afford $2000.00 you absolutely buy them for those kids as they deserve it. Remember these rings and memories will be charished for life.

I have an off topic question but hopefully you Highlands guys can help me out. Does anyone know where I could pick up a tan/brown Highlands baseball cap. It can say anything on it pertaining to HHS but it needs to be a tan cap. Transfer Station only had the blue hats with the H on them and the school only had jerseys in their spirit shop.
