What if Calipari didn't come to UK...how nasty would Memphis be? lol

What if Mike Casey doesn't break his leg in a car accident before the 1969-70 season? He was the leading returning scorer on a team with Dan Issel and Mike Pratt. The Cats were still rated #1 for most of that year, but lost in the NCAA 106-100 in OT to Jacksonville. And BTW, what if the refs had got the blocking foul correct on the Jacksonville player instead of calling a charge on Issel and his 5th foul. UK would have claimed another title that year IMO. UCLA finally won it, but it was their worst team of their 10 championship seasons under Wooden.

 

 

What if John Wooden doesn't announce his retirement before the 1975 championship game? No way the refs were going to let him lose his last game as a coach. They called walking on UK's Robey and Phillips about everytime they got the ball. All they had to do was give a head fake and it was a violation. They spent the whole game looking for the smallest of reasons to blow the whistle against UK, and once allowed Wooden to run far out on the court, but didn't call a T. If memory serves me right I think he also threw his program.

I guess the timing was bad for UK with the retirement announcement and the game being played in Southern California (San Diego). No chance.

 

 

 

What if Marquis Estill had come back for his senior year. In his case it wasn't an NBA reason. He just chose not to return. Never have figured that one out.

^I believe Estill had some personal reasons as well. Nothing criminal or anything though I don't believe.

What if Dirk Nowitzki came to Kentucky instead of entering the NBA draft? When would he have been drafted? 96 or 97?

Anderson couldn't have played. I know they said he could run and dunk, but he had no lateral movement. The possibility of him playing was a smokescreen.

 

But yes, his injury may very well have cost UK a national title. Of course, if Pitino hadn't redshirted Jeff Sheppard ...

 

I remember hearing an interview with Anderson a few years ago talking about that Title game, and he said he definitely could have played. So if that was not real possibility, I doubt he would still say that if it was just a smokescreen.

That was Jonathan Stewart. Johnny Pittman I believe was a one time UK recruit that ended up playing for Oklahoma State.
