Seeing the other thread about "what if" Meeks had stayed got me to thinking.

 

What would some of the greatest "what if" teams be in College Basketball history? There are a lot of them from UNC to UK that would have been unbelieveable basketball teams if "this player" had not left for the draft or "this player" had not been injured.

 

Who are some you can think of?

 

This year's UK team with Jodie Meeks has been mentioned.

 

But I immediately remember the '97 team. What if Antoine Walker stays one more year and Derek Anderson is not injured? How dynamic would that squad have been?

 

What if the '99 team still had a Senior Nazr Mohammad who went pro after the national title?

 

Just wondering out loud during the stretch of a week off from UK games.

What if Corey Brewer, Joakim Noah & Al Horford had all stayed for their senior seasons?

What if Sean May, Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants had stayed for their senior year with Marvin Williams sticking around?

Bearcats and Kenyon Martin, would they have won the championship?

What if's are hard to compare because they typically involve a player leaving early and another superstar taking their place.

 

For example:

I am thinking about Ohio State. What if Greg Oden had stuck around to play with Daquean Cook, David Lighty, et. al. They would've been very, very good. But they most likely wouldn't have gotten BJ Mullens for a year, or other top-flight recruits.

Bearcats and Kenyon Martin, would they have won the championship?

 

No but Cincinnati fans are great with excuses, so I'm sure they would've thought of something.

What if Derrick Rose had stayed around and played along side Tyreke Evans.

What if Sean May, Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants had stayed for their senior year with Marvin Williams sticking around?

 

This was the first that came to mind.

Rex, Eric Manual, Chris Mills, Sean Kemp were always quite a "what if" team.

Rajon Rondo - Ramel Bradley - Joe Crawford - Patrick Patterson - Randolph Morris

 

I think that would've been a very good team, if they played with heart.

Rodney Dent had not hurt his knee in 1994. I think it cost UK a final four with no true big man. Ended up getting drafted in the 2nd round.

Rick had not gone to Boston.

What if Meeks had stayed or UK got Xavier Henrey.

Rick had let Derrick Anderson play against Arizona.

Indiana 1993, if Alan Henderson doesn't tweak his knee late in the regular season. The Hoosiers made it to the Elite Eight, losing to Kansas, with Henderson practically playing on one leg.

 

Indiana 1975 is Sean May doesn't break his hand ... I know the Kentucky fans didn't mind. :lol:
