The most amazing game I ever attended was Duke/UK in the Meadowlands when Jason Williams drained about 40 three pointers. He was extremely commanding and controlled the game. Again, the biggest drawback to Wall is that he is a Freshman and has a tendency to play like it sometimes. He is not near the fluid of a shooter as Williams, but he has proven to knock down the jumper a lot better than people thought he would be able to.

Jay Williams was one of the best players I've watch in college during my lifetime.:thumb:

Yes, that was Carruth's coming out party. I think he had 19 points. Most of them were in the first half in a short span. Cliff Hawkins was oddly on fire as well that game. Jules Camara was good that game as well.

Carruth had 19 in that game and Williams had 38.

I never said that John Wall is the greatest of all-time. I said that he's one of the best athletes I've ever seen the position. Whether or not he ends up being the best ever depends on Kentucky's success this season. Personally, I am very hesitant to annoint Wall as the greatest ever, particularly 8 games into his career. Right or wrong, he won't go down as the greatest college basketball guard of all-time because he'll only be in the game for one year.

 

You said that you've seen better. I asked who and you ultimately answered Jason Williams. I could buy that. He's one of the best PG's I've ever seen on the college level, although I didn't get to see Pistol Pete.

Yeah...I suppose I should have clarified that Carruth matched him shot-for-shot for a half, and not the entire game. Entertaining game.

John Wall is pretty amazing, I'm gonna go the political route and say that Best EVER is a bit too soon. Still, the kid does things that just are mind boggling. I don't see him scoring on the same plane as Kevin Durant and frankly the comparison is unfair. Different positions, different roles. Durant was on a good team with I believe one other great scorer and then a bunch of good role players, but was the defined scorer and driving force of the entire team. Wall has some great players on his team and really doesn't have to be the scorer Durant was. In fact if he was that scorer I think UK wouldn't be as good. Because Wall is the very definition of a PG, he is able to get points without having to directly score them. He is a triple threat so to speak. He is deadly off the dribble and if you get up on him too much or lose him in the fast break he will drive to the basket and make you look silly. However, he also has shown that he can be reliable enough with the jump shot that if you give him too much space he will pull up and pop. Finally though if you over commit on him too much or try to double him up, the kid has the sight and ability to feed to ball to the open man and let him burn you.

 

Wall's greatest ability right now is that he can make the players around him better. This sometimes is the intangible most overlooked in players I think. Its one thing to be an amazing scorer night in and night out. Still, when you can make the guys around you better simply by feeding them the ball, getting them open in the right places, knowing their strengths and playing to them, I think that is one of Wall's better skills.

 

He is still very young. I don't expect him to be flawless. The turnovers can be high, but as Calipari stated, you expect them to be up there somewhat simply with the pace our team runs and the youth we tout. Wall should have between two and four a game simply because of his aggresiveness and willingness to try and create. Its when he gets up into 5 or 6 or even 7 turnovers that he might be getting careless. Maturity games with experience.

 

10 games in and all I will commit to right now on John Wall is that I am having one heck of a time getting to watch this kid represent the team I love.

That being said, he is the best athlete I have seen at the point guard position.

 

My Duke bias makes me say Jason Williams was a better point guard, but Wall is a superior athlete.

Jay Williams wasn't even a great athlete by D1 basketball standards. A great point guard maybe but better than Wall??? C'mon?? Really??
