Did HHS play anyone ranked in the top 10 in the state this year? I know X beat 5 of the top 10 and T twice. Ryle and Manual are the only two on Highlands schedule. Since you like rankings so much check out the Litkenhous ratings.

St. X would win this. Only supporting factor is that they are a 6A school and according to all of the posts concerning Mr. Football, the higher the class the better the football. So I am using that same (wrong) philosophy here.

When I interviewed Cincinnati St. X's coach on the field after his team's loss to Highlands, I asked him if he would be willing to compare Highlands with Louisville St. X and Trinity. He said:

 

"I don't want to do that, but I will say that one reason Highlands beat us tonight is because they are much quicker and faster on both sides of the ball than the teams we beat from Louisville."

Since HHS has proven to be arguably the best of 5A - and X has won that distinction this year - why dont they just schedule each other next season?

 

Put an end to this banter back and forth for good. Then continue to do it on a yearly basis. BEst of the the two top classes.

I agree that Highlands, X and Trinity should schedule games with each other on a yearly basis. Just like all three should continue to play the TN, OH and IN powers as well. It makes for much greater football and a lot of fun, including the pre and post game bantarring that would take place. I believe they eventually will do this as more and more scoops push to exile these three from competing against the "underprivilaged" teams in the state. Mainly the publics which continually fuss about their own disadvantages instead of doing something about it as Ryle, SK, Boyle, Central and Ft. Campbell have succeeded in doing recently. Everyone seems to forget the powerhouse teams that exist today always had the same circumstances that are called unfair by others yet they didn't always rule the roost back in the 70-80's. It was planted, watered and harvested over a long period of time. The big 3 should and will begin to realize, IMO, that they have great competative spirit and with that comes animosity for one another, but they have much more in common in their quest to continue their respective traditions. It's easy to hate the Yankees, Patriots and Duke but people loathe them because they have built a dynasty worthy of envy. Other teams can sit around and whine or do something about it...maybe like Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Vikings or Donovan's Gators. I firmly believe that X, T and the Birds will eventually be castout by the fickle mob and have to play a separate playoff. However, they will also benefit from this as well by playing a regional schedule and getting much more national exposure...which will only add to their program's succes. Why not be proactive and start scheduling each other now? My congrats to those teams, and a few others...Lone Oak I forgot to add you to the list...that I mentioned above. U are building your program. You aren't complaining about what you don't have or can't do and you will only see increases success in the future. Just remember that once you reach a certain level of achievement, people will begin to question your coaches, recruitment and may even try to get you removed from the status quo of mediocrity. But then you can schedule games with the other outcasts!! Now that would be fun. Sure, dominating recess dodgeball is a blast but taking your lumps as a froshman in high school sports can be rewarding if u are willing to grow!!

 

Last, would all of you St. X, Trinity and Highlands' fans stop throwing so many stones at each other. Most of these alumni who went to these schools and played college ball or worked with each other in the real world find much more that they have in common and laugh at those who think the 'other side' is secretly part of Darth Vader's dark side. Enjoy your coaches and the rivalry but leave out the finger pointing directed to the other side. I have found myself caught up in that mindset before and laugh to myself about some of the things I have said or even written on here. Try to fight the negativity that grasps our media and enjoy the game we all love.

You had me on the hook until you mentioned Duke. In all seriousness I think some of stone throwers probably aren't real fans of either of the schools. There shouldn't be a year that goes by where Highlands doesn't play either Trinity or St. X (Louisville). We tore down the Berlin wall, it seems we could get a game scheduled.

StX played Highlands in '05 and '06. the '05 score was 45-0 and the StX defense only played a total of 28 plays Tigers win. The '06 score was closer 35-21 Tigers win. But i think most HHS fans are not looking at Cinni X's Schedule this year leading up to there match up. Colerain, Indianapolis Cathedral, Louisville St. Xavier, Trinity High School, Highlands High School. The last i heard the first 4 teams are pretty good yes Trinity was down but still thats one wicked hard schedule. i and not going to take anything away from the HHS team. The Cinni X win is an outstanding accomplishment even though only by 5 its a win. But i am trying to make a point in that maybe Cinni X could have been worn out with the first 4 games....teams are known to do that but none the less they lost.

 

All that said i pick StX(Lou) over Highlands anyday. Go Tigers

I would agree that it would be better than playing the Colerains and the Moellers of Ohio ,but playing the Ohio teams and winning look so much better on the resume'. While playing Lou X and T would be of more interest on this board, it makes more financial sense for Highlands to play the Colerains, Cincy Xs and Elders. Big difference in transportation costs in going to the Ville than the Nati. As some others on here are aware, Highlands athletic budget isn't flush with cash. Actually nothing in Highlands budget is flush with cash. If you can get what you are "looking for" right across the river, it really doesn't make a lot of sense to drive 2 hours to get the same thing. As a fan, I'd like to play Lou X and T more often. If I'm responsible for the athletic budget however, I might not look at it the same way.

 

And I have to agree with you hbf, a win over a Cincy big school probably does raise a few more eyebrows than a win over Lou X or T does in most years. As good as Lou X was this year (and they were very, very good), they still lost to Cincy X. Dale's decision to play Cincy X in lieu of Lou X or T, turned out to be the right decision in his quest to be ranked highly in the national polls. Plus it did help Highlands garner a little respect from the Cincy football fans. Had we played Lou X or T this year and beaten them, we'd still be hearing from the Cincy fans how bad Ky football is and that Highlands didn't beat any one really good in light of Cincy X's wins over both of those programs. While we still hear that from some Cincy fans (que CF), the fact is that most Cincy football fans did give Highlands some respect for beating Cincy X. To those of us up here on the border, that was most enjoyable.

 

Oh, and overall, Ohio football is better than Ky football. We're improving, but we definitely aren't there yet.

to Brian Piccolo, any comments you perceived as derogatory toward your young QB were not intended in the way you took it and were based solely upon comparing him with Will Bardo, and this was then the basis of my opinion as to why Highlands late season was probably not as strong as St. X. IMO Highlands peaked earlier in the season when they beat St. X of Cinci and everything else is speculation. It appears the National and State computer power rankings support my argument. Bardo was that good, not that Towles is not good for a sophomore and that he didn't do a great job stepping in to some big shoes. Xavier was just that ferocious on D and IMO it would have been difficult for someone that lacked wheels to deal with. If there is someone from HHS that thinks there wasn't a drop off at QB after your Cinci St. X game and after that time I'd be interested in hearing their argument. Highlands is a great program. HHS can travel 20 minutes and play 5 schools as good as if not better than X&T. The football is definitely better in Ohio than in KY. Columbus Desales a small catholic school could compete with any team in KY.They have played HHS twice and drilled them both times.
