Since HHS has proven to be arguably the best of 5A - and X has won that distinction this year - why dont they just schedule each other next season?

 

Put an end to this banter back and forth for good. Then continue to do it on a yearly basis. BEst of the the two top classes.

I would agree with imsays. HHS's sophomore QB would not have been able to deal with the speed of pass rush and tight coverage he would have encountered had they played St. X at the end of the season. I do not think he could have effectively run the ball like Lawrence of SK did. I just think he would have been too young, weak and slow and could have easily been injured had he tried to run.

 

It boils down to the argument of skill vs power, and HHS IMO was the more skilled team up until Bardo was out at QB and that they likely would have been able to defeat St. X up until that time. But after Bardo was out at QB I not too sure. HHS would have needed the multi-dimensional offensive arsenal Bardo brought to the table to beat St. X, and relying heavily on the running game would not have cut it. The power and depth of St. X would have likely prevailed. Speed-wise, I found them to be quite similar.

Not sure how such a conclusion could be reached after Lou. X was beat soundly by Cincy St. X -- a team which the Birds came within a few yards of destroying by as much as 30 points. :idunno:

 

The Birds have to be considered the tops in the state this year, and perhaps, for some time to come.

How many times has St.X trounced Trinity in the regular season only to get beat the second time around? This year is the first time since 2003 that the winner has won both games. Using one game (at the beginning of the year) to determine who would win between HHS and St.X is weak just like the type of schedule HHS played the rest of the year.

Well Delta_Rotary, regardless of the relative strength of schedules, the fact remains that when it was time for Highlands to suit up and take care of business, they did so every time, while your guys mailed it in one week, wouldn't you say?

Cincy St.X certainly outplayed Lou. in that game. I never realized that once a team beats another in one game that automatically makes them better. I guess in your world there are no cinderella stories only better teams. What happens when a team doesn't go underfeated when they win a championship? How about Trinity in 05? They lost their first 4 games before winning the championship. How about Paducah T. this year? They were a 4 seed. Are they not the best team in 3A this year? Do the teams that beat them during the regular season have a claim that they are better? Do you honestly think that if HHS would have played Cincy X's. schedule they would have had a better record or do you think HHS in that game was the better team?

Does Mclean Co. have a claim they are better than Paducah Tilghman this year even though PT won the championship or were they just a better team that game? What about Union Co. They beat PT in the regular season only to lose to them in the playoffs. Who is the better team?
