I think the question is very relevant to the subject when a HHS fan lays claim to that group being the "best ever in KY" because of 4 year record of 54-1. BTW, I think everyone, almost everyone on BGP, is aware that Highlands has the enrollment of a 3A school and plays up 5A. If you are conceding that because of this fact they have chosen not play near the rigorous schedule over 4 years that X and T have, then just say that, please. If you are defending the claim "best ever in KY" then just say that and tell me how many of those 54 wins came against X, T, Moeller, Cincy X and Elder. Okay...we'll give you 900 of our drama, music, chess, french club, yearbook, band, golf, swimming, tennis and just general academic nerd students...good luck with winning the BCS with those guys. You might have better luck suiting up some of the more athletic girls at Highlands.

The only names I will be calling these students is "Dr." and "Your Honor"...there's no shame at all in being part of these groups. My point is that there are only so many football players in a given area. You can talk student numbers all you want, but as a Highlands supporter I would think you of all people would champion the idea that its "not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the Fight in the dog."

Nice job on the summation of '05 and '06. I am late jumping on this but with a couple of sons playing in that time frame it always burned me to call the two years, "down years." Especially by folks who did not see them play. The two squads in '05 and '06 had a ton of talent. As LN eloquently stated and T-bird accurately stated, the competition was more than the 'birds could handle at a time when two platooning was common. Other than the X game in Louisvile, there were some close and exciting games the two years in question.

 

If you want to look for the 'Dark Ages" in HHS football, look no further than when I played. 1971 through 1974! No trips to the Championships and no playoffs other than B Station my sophomore year. Then came LN and T-bird and the championships resumed!

 

I would say the "dark ages" for HHS football would have been the Eicher years, 83-87. If you include 88, the longest modern streak for the birds without a state title. I believe every coach has a championship since 60 except Eicher. Nice guy but terrible for the program.
