That's not true. Lorenzen's last season was the 1998 season. Highlands in 2000 (when Gino Guidugli, US Army All-American Brent Grover, Brett Hamblen, and Ben Scott were seniors) was very likely the best team in KY, and definitely better than T and X (HHS beat T that year). The big debate at the end of that year was whether Highlands or Male was the best in state. In 2004 there was a lot of debate about whether Highlands or St. X was best in state... both teams had only one loss on the field, and the losses were on the same day against Cincy big-schools. Highlands got a lot of attention in 2007, finishing the year ranked in MaxPrep's top-25. I would say that Highlands has been in the conversation of "best in state" on a few occasions since Lorenzen's time.

Next year, it's back to losing to Trinity in the playoffs and X won't even be in the discussion for who is the best team in the State. Enjoy your year in the spotlight of Louisville. I would say the "dark ages" for HHS football would have been the Eicher years, 83-87. If you include 88, the longest modern streak for the birds without a state title. I believe every coach has a championship since 60 except Eicher. Nice guy but terrible for the program.

 

I would say you are correct....I played through these years and believe me. It is tough sitting at Thanksgiving and envying my brothers who have all been part of a State Championship team. The closest I came was in 86 when we were 12-0 and traveled to Danville only to lose in Double OT 35-34....That's okay though. I will get mine in 2023-2024-2025:clap:....................You can bet I will!!!!

High school polls are just like beauty pagents everyone has a favorite. If its not decided on the field then its all opinions with a few facts sprinkled in to back ones opinion. HHS had a great season and found itself in the discussion of top teams in the country but in the end it is someones opinion who probably didnt even see half the teams play in there own top twenty five. We should all be glad that KY high school football gets some recognition. Ohio and probably a big part of the country will always be looking down at KY HS football as long as the HHS,T,X's of the state continue to lose the interstate matchups.

Seems like Highlands always seems to talk a big game against the Tigers, but here recently at all levels (varsity, JV, and freshman) when they actually do meet face-to-face on the field, the Birds end up as a table snack for the Tigers. This year would be no different. No matter where anyone tries to rank you, we are bigger, faster, and there are definitely a lot more of us (since we all know that football is a numbers game ). It's a real shame that you weren't on the schedule to get your spanking this year. Nonetheless, I can appreciate your intestinal fortitude in trying to step into the batter's box.

I'm no expert, but I believe this may be a violation of BGP rule 4.

 

I think everyone needs to be mindful of the rules BGP has set up.

 

Also, I think the Trinity, Saint X and Highlands fans should not be taking shots at each other's programs. That's the kind of stupid stuff that goes on over on Yappi, and this is a better-class site than that!!

 

Trinity = 1st-class program

Saint X = 1st-class program

Highlands = 1st-class program
