It's funny because the folks that have ties to programs with the most to gain by UC falling back off the map are the ones making the strongest case for him to get the job while the large majority of the rest of the media are covering it very differently.

 

Do you really think supporters of OSU, Louisville and Pitt are thrilled with the idea that if BK does stay UC continues to climb the ladder of national prominence? May, Herbie and now Forde are piling on every chance they get, and if they did any homework that would know that the interest here is pretty one sided, and the side not nearly as interested isn't the one living in Cincinnati...

 

Until BK starts taking recruits from the Bucks I don't feel threatened. If anything ND has taken more recruits from the Bucks before the BK era (if it happens)..it could be worse if he goes to ND for OSU than Cincy in theory who knows.... BK knows a lil bit of OH now.

I saw that as well. He would be a great hire, but most would't like it. The man has an eye for talent that is unmatched IMO.

 

 

 

I don't think anyone thinks that on this current pace BK is a life-time guy at UC. ND has no interest at the moment, so BK shouldn't settle for being a last resort. He will get plenty of opportunities in the next few years so he doesn't have to go where he isn't wanted.

 

Would Kelly care if he wasn't the #1 guy? Only he could answer that. Kelly seems to be a confident, extremely motivated guy. I can't imagine him turning down the opportunity to be the guy that turns around ND. But, as we are hearing it won't be offered to him. I just wish UC could figure out a way to keep him.

If it wasn't for the failure of CW I could see them checking out Mike Zimmer he is a great defensive coach and all of his players love him.

Kirk Ferentz of Iowa is getting a little attention, he is a consitent winner who always has a hard nosed team.

I think that's obviously a good thing. The Big East needs to keep some of this big time coaches if they are ever going to get any national respect. It hurt the conference when Petrino and Rich Rod bailed like they did. Luckily, UC hired Kelley and they improved. If not, the conference would be in bad shape on a national scale.

 

Schiano probably should of took bigger job when he could've, they haven't progressed like everyone anticipated they would. Still he has made Rutgers competetive, and that's saying something. Edsall is a class act and great coach, but unless you are football junkie chances are you've never heard of him.

 

Completely different subject. But I think Schiano is holding out for Joe Pa's retirement.

 

Back on topic. Someone spoke about the ripple effect. What if Urban does end up at ND. What if Florida comes knocking on BKs door?

Although GT feels otherwise, it appears that Notre Dame does have interest in Kelly, however, he is not one of the top candidates.

Pete Sampson has posted the third installment of our coaching candidates to replace Charlie Weis.

 

Based upon the gathering of information from our sources today, Brian Kelly remains at the top of the list of Irish Illustrated's candidates most likely to land the job, as he was last Wednesday when we posted a similar story.

 

Kelly will remain at the top of our list until we write something contrary to that. That means that if we don't have a story tomorrow saying otherwise, Irish Illustrated still believes that Kelly is the most likely man to get the job. That goes for Thursday, Friday, Saturday...Until we report otherwise, that remains the case.

 

Sources told me today that AD Jack Swarbrick will be swinging for a home run from the elite list of college football coaches who have achieved at the highest level (see Coaching Hot Board). We believe that if Swarbrick doesn't land one of those candidates that Kelly is the most likely candidate to be Notre Dame's next head coach.

 

So bascially it looks like the insiders at Notre Dame's rivals site, believe that while Kelly is not at the top of the Irish's wishlist, he is the one most likely to accept the position if offered.

Willingham was there only 3 I believe. Charlie was on borrowed time after year 3. ND is getting restless. They are one bad hire away from being irrelevant IMO. Kids wanted to come and play for Charlie, for what ever reason. I believe that ND could be a monster with the right coach, but how will the faithful react if the Irish only with 6 games next season. Firing Charlie Weis may actually hurt this program. Say what you want, but the man brought in talent and I believe he would have had a good season next year. Years 3 and 4 for him deserve a right-off IMO. Ty Willingham didn't recruit well IMO overall. Charlie had to play alot of young guys. Clausen is just now learning how to be a winning QB after being thrown to the wolves as a frosh behind a horrible, horrible offensive line. The offense was getting there and in time the defense would have too IMO. The ND job today is a better job than what it was when Charlie took over. They have talent, but it's still pretty young especially if they have to go with Crist as he is pretty inexperienced. The next coach has to win next year, IMO, to keep the momentum going. Yes, I said it momentum. The ND program is building depth or at least it was under Charlie.

 

Look at Miami. No one thought they'd sniff 9 wins in the regular season this year (except for BigSpikes) and most had them going 0-4 to start the season. Shannon was quietly building depth with his type of guys and learning on the job with a young team. That is what Charlie was doing as well IMO. He was not a great coach, but he was getting better IMO. He and Shannon both were learning how fine the line is between winning and losing close games.

It sounds like UC may be in trouble off the field is BK leaves...

Butch Davis would be a great hire, he's a defensive guy, and well he did recruit the greatest team in College Football History in the 2001 Canes.

The only thing with Davis for me is that all of his players from the past couldn't get into ND. He does have an eye for talent though, and could probably find talent that he would win with and win big. Miami isn't as easy as some schools to get in to, but the requirements are that of ND's. But, overall Davis would be a great hire for them IMO.
