That's fine with me. He has been a "Soft Verbal" for a while for the Canes, after originally stating that he would be in Miami next year. The Miami coaches supposedly have quit calling him. UF was rumored for a while but I think they kind of fell out of love with the guy. The scouts say that he can be one of the best DL in this class, but he takes plays off. I don't know, I haven't seen him play, but if a player doesn't want to come to the U he can and should go elsewhere and be happy IMO.

Although GT feels otherwise, it appears that Notre Dame does have interest in Kelly, however, he is not one of the top candidates.

Pete Sampson has posted the third installment of our coaching candidates to replace Charlie Weis.

 

Based upon the gathering of information from our sources today, Brian Kelly remains at the top of the list of Irish Illustrated's candidates most likely to land the job, as he was last Wednesday when we posted a similar story.

 

Kelly will remain at the top of our list until we write something contrary to that. That means that if we don't have a story tomorrow saying otherwise, Irish Illustrated still believes that Kelly is the most likely man to get the job. That goes for Thursday, Friday, Saturday...Until we report otherwise, that remains the case.

 

Sources told me today that AD Jack Swarbrick will be swinging for a home run from the elite list of college football coaches who have achieved at the highest level (see Coaching Hot Board). We believe that if Swarbrick doesn't land one of those candidates that Kelly is the most likely candidate to be Notre Dame's next head coach.

 

So bascially it looks like the insiders at Notre Dame's rivals site, believe that while Kelly is not at the top of the Irish's wishlist, he is the one most likely to accept the position if offered.

 

Take that for what it is worth.

 

I don't blame them for sticking to their guns about BK, and I know Pete and his staff are very in tune with what is going on at ND. Basically they are saying ND will be forced to drop to at best the 4th guy on the list once again and hope it works out better than the last 3 or 4 times that happened...

Although I really hope it isn't happening again, it does appear that Notre Dame has fired a football coach without having a successor in place. Charlie Weis at least recruited well and graduated players. Another year with him might be preferable to starting over with the 5th or 6th option.

Notre Dame has been "pantsed" more than a dork in gym class, regarding their coaching searches.

Yes they lost about 4 million last year as a whole. What checks are they writing out of that budget now? The practice facility is entirely private funding, but they are using bonds to get it started ASAP and stretch out the payments from the private donors...

I heard they were borrowing a fresh 10 million ASAP to get the practice facilities up. Repaying the temporary bonds through private donations and proceeds from game contracts, hoping to pay the debt off by 2015 as they anticipate revenue to come in ala BK... just seems high risk considering they lost 4 million on a BCS year and BK will probably want a raise.

The only part that is true is that they are using bonds to get it started now. All money has been pledged by private donors, and the bonds allow them to stretch out payment. That's the only way the board would approve the bonds. The only part that might be even partially true is using some of the 3 million they are getting from VPI to move that 2012 game from Cincinnati to DC. But rumors are fun, so go with it...
