I heard tonight was a very emotional night for the black and gold tigers. Several former players from the 1990 State Runnerup team that lost to Beechwood in the regular season but came back to beat them in this same Regional final spoke to the Tigers. Players from that team included Tommy and Rick Vickers, Shannan Haggard, DAvid Kiefer, Tony Ross, Chad Lay, Jeff Stevenson, Brad Hissong, BJ Shockney and Bryan Horn. Its been 19 yrs since Bellevue has beaten Beechwood in the playoffs. Haggard broke the boys down with a little "Can you beat that black n Gold !!!"

 

Like I said before, this and every game from here on out is Bellevue's state championship.

That '90 squad was very good. I still remember when we faced them early in the season on a Saturday afternoon and the heat was incredible. To this day I still think they were the hardest hitting team we played against that season and we were AAA (HHS, CovCath,Holmes,Newport,Scott,Dixie).

They had a ton of speed as well with Kiefer(QB) Haggard(WR)Hissong(RB) all state champion sprinters. Good group of guys who all bleed black n gold and a neat gesture. All those guys were frosh my SR year and they ran a ton of Red offense and defense against the varsity. Beechwood had a great team that year also led by Brandon Berger.

 

This should be a great game. Yes Beechwood is the favorite but anything can happen.

If Beechwood hadn't of ruined many drives with fumbles Rigdon and Co. would've broken a few more. Bellevue was pushed around up front from the start. The red and white tigers just fumbled the football too much. If you dominate up front you generally dominate a football game. Take out the mud and Beechwood drives them off the ball that much more and score twice as many at least.

Front Row the only reason #5 would have red glasses on is because he forgot to take them off when he left Ludlow. He is just trying to stir the pot. Doing a good job from what I can tell. Go get them tigers.

I have been following the playoffs closely at all levels. Saw the Beechwood/Bellevue game. You are right about Rigdon and the fumbles, but according to the stats Bellevue had 13 fumbles that night 5 of which were lost. According to the stats the Buckler kid scores once every 8 carries, take away a mimnimum of 13 more potential carries and even more on the ones that were lost then you can say that Bellevue lost many more scoring chances than Beechwood did.

I don't agree about Beechwood pushing Bellevue around. If anything, it was the other way in the first half. Beechwood was having trouble handling Bellevue's size up front. Bellevue was moving the ball like it was a rugby scrum - a wedge of big boys surrounding Buckler and hoping he found a crease. Get 3 yards and do it again. On one play, Buckler found the opening and off he went for a 60 yard TD. Beechwood did a good job shutting Bellevue down in the second half except for Bellevue's last drive when the rugby scrum had success again. It will be interesting to see how the battle in the trenches goes on the turf at Beechwood.

It's only rainy and muddy when Beechwood travels to Bellevue. LOL. Seems that way EVERY year. I heard cold and clear weather.

I remember one big personal foul penalty that was a mystery call from my vantage point. But Bellevue was moving the ball better on that drive than they had been.

I don't remember Bellevue having trouble moving the ball? What I remember about the game is Bellevue having trouble holding on to the ball. It was a complete mud hole.
