Couldn't hotel space be a big problem, especially on a big UK basketball weekend? Plus, not having been to a football game there in recent years, I don't know that Hangar Field's facilities remotely compare to what Smith Stadium offers.

A lot of people would stay in Lexington, IMO. You could drive from Lexington to Richmond just as quick as you could drive to PJCS from some places in Louisville (20-25 minutes) Richmond doesn't have the hotel space to accomodate everyone on their own.

 

The facilities are no where near Smith or PJCS. To me that is a big drawback, especially when compared to the amenities offered at PJCS (like the indoor club level). I'll have to wait and judge BG and Smith Stadium after December.

 

In my mind, EKU has too many cons to be an attractive host for the KHSAA Finals. In a pinch, I'm sure they could adequately handle it, but I really think this event deserves something more than just adequate.

Yes, I would be in favor of it at EKU, even if it was on a rotatating type location and sites were alternated from one year to the next.

I know that they host the all A state tournament so I don't think it would be a problem.

I know their is a core of coaches who do, but wonder how many actual fans since 4 of the 6 games are not night games and a commute is fairly easy from virtually anywhere in the state.

I also think that the ALL A should be rotated as well between Eastern, Western, Murray, and the NKU Arena.

Good question. I think it depends upon what teams make it to the finals, how far away they are, and how many fans they bring with them.

 

I would think you'd have to plan for a certain "safe" number and require that many rooms to be available before you could count a city as acceptable. I don't think Richmond, alone, would meet the requirements. Maybe I am wrong.

The state championship games were held at EKU in 1977 and 1978.

The big stadiums is what I don't like. You know the players enjoy seeing big crowds and Papa Johns just made everything small and in my opinion Louisville is not a central location. I lived in Richmond for a while and think it would be a great place to host, but it's only fair to rotate that way both sides of the state have some traveling to do!

I agree :thumb: I also think, and have "thunk" for a good while, that the All - Star game should move to a smaller venue... such as Georgetown College! I really think G-town would attract a larger group of folks based upon proximity to metropolitan cities.

Personally, I like EKU. It's less than 45 minutes away for me and would give me a better chance to see all of the games and not just the one I would hopefully attend.

I agree. The all-star game held in Jaunary at the University of the Cumberlands was a great crowd. The game at WKU was very small and the size of the stadium made it seem that much smaller.
