If you want to find a location that is convenient for the largest number of people, Lexington or Richmond make more sense than Bowling Green. Louisville is still convenient to the major populations centers of Norhtern Kentucky, Lexington, Paducah and Bowling Green. It makes no sense to use strict geography but population centers/density. Louisville is actuall slightly closer to Richmond than to Bowling Green according to Yahoo maps, as, obviously, are Northern Kentucky and Lexington and a whole bunch of other places.

 

Pointing out Marion County is the true geographic center is ludicrous. There aren't any where close to enough facilities of any sort to accommodate a championship crowd.

 

Moving the site from place to place makes sense to. But, we see where the real bias lies. Make you points but don't accuse others of bias when you have no knowledge of that person's motives or know anything else about them.

Alright, let's cut through the bias and just tackle this head on. That EKU has turf is great, but the fact of the matter is that little else about their facilities compares with WKU. Before the recent renovation, that absolutely wasn't true. In fact, before the renovation, you could argue that EKU was better than WKU. But at this point, the two aren't remotely comparable, and that kills any chance that they have. WKU's aren't as good as Papa John's, which is why if not for the conflict, the championships would still be there. It boils down to that more than anything else.

 

Pointing out that Marion County is the true geographic center is an indictment on your argument. Just because something makes sense location-wise, doesn't mean it makes sense in other ways.

Bias? False accusation. I can drive to Knoxville, TN in the same amount of time it takes me to drive to Bowling Green. It's not bias, it's pragmatism and fairness. Why should people from the eastern end of the state have to drive 4-5 hours each year while those in the central/western regions drive 1-2 hours?

 

Some of the teams coming from the west had to drive mroe than 1-2 hours to get to Louisville.

 

IMO, the best solution would be to rotate between 3 or four venues that meet the requirements (i.e. turf, etc...).

And Richmond and Lexington are? Eastern Kentucky is NOT the whole of Kentucky.

 

Hate to tell you this, but the state doesn't end west of I-75. The geographic center, as we have discussed in the past is near Elizabethtown. Might be closer to Lebanon Junction actually. Either way, anything East of Louisville makes it a huge haul for folks in the West and anything West of Louisville makes it a haul for those in the East.

 

Living in Louisville it isn't more than an hour and a half or so away to any of the venues so I am not that concerned. I will follow my Rocks to any location. I just get annoying at the Central and Eastern, KY bias that predominates these discussion. The state of Kentucky is more than the Mountains and Lexington folks. There is a Western part of the state that seems to be ignored in 90% of the complaints about venue.

 

I personally would have liked them to have stayed in Louisville. I am from Louisville, my team is from Louisville and for the entirety of my conscious life the finals have been in Louisville. That said I don't mind them being in Bowling Green. I think it has a great feel for a college town with a good stadium atmosphere and great venues for entertainment. It may be a college town, but it is a nice college town that really will make this a great time.

You have been able to travel to watch your team play for your whole life with no travel time and you want to call others bias because they have suggested a location that does not fit your description of centralized? :idunno:

I am not angry, I just get annoyed that people never seem to think about the folks in the west. If anything I get exasperated whenever this topic comes up every single bloody year because someone east of Lexington always says that Lexington or Richmond make more sense than anywhere else.

 

Louisville, when available is the best compromise. BG is not easier for me than Lexington or Richmond but I don't mind it. I rather prefer the atmosphere of BG to either of the other towns mentioned. Even so there is no point griping about it either way.

I think once everyone attends the games in BG they will be impressed. Great facility for HS football. From NKY and would rather go to BG than Richmond due to facilities.

My son and I visited WKU a few weeks ago. Undeniably a great venue for football, HS or college. A surprisingly beautiful campus also.

 

In some ways this debate is much ado about nothing in that who knows where the teams in the finals where come from year to year. But, it is fair to bear in mind that Huntsville, Alabama is about 40 miles closer to WKU than northern Kentucky and most counties more than one county east of I-75. Rotating the site seems a good option, but, then again, where will the teams end up coming from. We can't predict. (Although, in a case or two we may have a real good idea.)

I also think that the ALL A should be rotated as well between Eastern, Western, Murray, and the NKU Arena.

It's commonly recognized I-75 splits the state geographically. Richmond sits right on it. EKU, in reality, is Central Kentucky University.

 

Morehead is actually the closest true Eastern Kentucky University since EKU was switched from Prestonsburg to Richmond in its planning stages (thanks to a large bequethment of a Clark Co. native, btw).

 

But the problem with MSU, of course, would be a woeful lack of hotel space.

UK is not an option until get into the present and have an artificial turf field.You can not depend on the weather and three games a day for two days will tear up a natural grass field. NOT AN OPTION.

EKU would be an awesome place. The stadium would be PACKED. A packed small stadium is better than a 3/4 empty big one in my opinion. The only game that actually fills papa johns is an all louisville 6A final. And that game won't be as packed in Bowling green cause teh Louisville homers won't drive down for the game IMHO. Go back and forth between Eastern and Western. Alternate every 2 year cycle. half in the east, half in the West. That would Rock.
