I don't think a team has to stay over night though? It's a one day event, though I could see where teams playing early would want to stay over night the night before.

 

I do agree hosting a basketball team is alot different than a football teams as far as motel rooms. One football team on average is going to be like 6-7 basketball teams, not mention that 1A isn't going to bring in nearly the numbers as 5A or 6A, that should be pretty obvious though.

What about the folks from NKY, where do they fall into this, or are they just out of luck? Its more than 3 hours for the folks from Covington, a bit further for those coming from the Maysville area, closer to 4 hours.

 

 

I am not meaning to leave you guys out of the equation. Especially since much of the disapproval of the switch came from NKY folks. I was just countermanding the points made by people claiming that Lexington or Richmond are both more central locations than Louisville. I just get frustrated at the overwhelming bias of those in the Eastern part of the state that forget about the area west of Louisville.

Louisville is the most central location, I know geographically Elizabethtown is, however, as you go further west the state gets more narrow, therefore, limiting the population versus the east and central part of the state where it is much larger, we cannot simply say put the State Championship Game in the most centralized point of Kentucky because in reality while E-Town may be central, the population just isn't close to what it is in Central, Northern and Eastern Kentucky, I mean look at a map and once he hit Henderson County, the state gets really small out West, it isn't a knock to those out there, it is just why cater to a few when so many more live in other parts. No one is forgettng about WKY but lets also be honest, how much money and time do residents out in far WKY spend in Kentucky rather than Missouri, Indiana or Tennessee. I'm not basing it on that, just making a statement. We include WKY but I don't see how everything should be centralized based on our state extending so far out with so few people in it compared to the rest of the state.

Bias? False accusation. I can drive to Knoxville, TN in the same amount of time it takes me to drive to Bowling Green. It's not bias, it's pragmatism and fairness. Why should people from the eastern end of the state have to drive 4-5 hours each year while those in the central/western regions drive 1-2 hours?

 

Does WKU now have grandstands on both sides of the field?

I understand what you're saying but alot of the driving time for those SW of Louisville is particularly due to the lack of direct routes in that section of the state. Once you get west of I65 it becomes a long haul to just about anywhere in the state.

The land isn't traveling to the games. The people are.

 

Folks in EKy are making the same mistake about thinking of BG as "Western Kentucky" just because WKU is there the same way folks from WKy think of Richmond as "Eastern Kentucky" just because EKU is there.

 

BG is South-Central Ky. Richmond is Central Ky. In the grand scheme of things, both are relatively centrally-located. If Hangar Field upgraded its amenities, the best possible solution would be to have a three-way rotation between BG, Richmond and L'ville.

Given the fact that many people that are crying claim Richmond and Lexington are more centrally located for the entirety of the state than Louisville I will stand by my comments about bias.

 

I understand that BG will be a longer haul for people North and East of Louisville. If they'd ever built that stretch if interstate running east-west in the southern part of the state then this probably wouldn't be as big a deal.

 

Even so this was the only option at the time and we are stuck with it.
