Oh, he's been caught. Regional final against Trinity 4 or 5 years ago. Our line judge called it against them and he bet us a steak from Ruth's Chris that it wouldn't be on the film. Of course, he never sent us a copy of the film--or bought the steaks.

 

Like I said, rascal.

The Redman always has a few tricks............ It isn't his fault the official didn't catch it.

It's legal to get in the huddle, isn't it? Huge, huge difference. It's quite saddening to see ANY attempt to justify calling an illegal play if in fact Coach Redman intentionally called this play. At this point I don't have a clue if he intentionally did so, but if it could be proven that he did, I'd support banning him from coaching forever. And no I don't think I'm overreacting. Cheating has no place in high school sports. Period. If you think otherwise, all this stuff we talk about involving teaching kids life lessons through athletics is a bunch of horse manure. :madman:

by Sal Paolantonio, huddle started with deaf team who gave hand signals, and huddled to keep other team from seeing their signals.

I rather doubt that Coach Redman knew that it was an illegal play as he drew it up. Heck, he probably thought it was a brilliant idea.

 

So I don't think it's cheating in any way. It's up to the officials to penalize fouls; they just missed a couple on this play:ohbrother:.

 

And the aw-shucks, shoulder shrug description of the play is hilarious. He's a classic rascal; one of my all-time favorites.

 

 

He's been coaching for as long as anyone....I have a hard time believing he didn't know it was an illegal play. :lol:

 

I will say, I agree with your "rascal" description. :lol: I haven't met him, but reading his words often leaves me chuckling, even when I don't want to.

I understand the temptation to slide around the rules every now and then. But when I read about this kind of thing, I always come away thinking a little less of the coach/team that does it.

Ran the "Center Sneak" twice in my High School days. (Cro-Magnon)

 

Freshman year the coach called it for "fun." In that one, the center snaps the ball, touches the QB hands, waits a second and then takes off.

 

It went about 35 yards for a TD. The ref came to the Freshman coach and said, "Coach, I think that's illegal."

 

"Yeah, I know, but it was fun, wasn't it?"

 

 

The other was my Senior year. We added a modification. The Center hikes the ball, touches QB hands, then gives it to the TB coming through like a blocker and he took it 50 yards to the house. It was caught by the officials and brought back. But it was fun to the center. :lol:
