Yes. IMO, you should support everyone on your team. You don't have to agree with the mistakes they've made but most of us don't see the flaws of our favorite teams/athletes.

 

No one thinks that what Spikes did wasn't wrong. No one (I hope) should think that he shouldn't be punished.

Spikes showed he IS a thug. It's on tape. Just sayin.

 

It was one instance, Brandon Spikes is a good person, I have met him and spoke to him beyond the casual "Hey, I'm a big fan." Do I know him like he's my best friend? No, but it's the first time he has done something like that....give the kid a break, he made a mistake and maybe the punishment is too light, but the SEC agreed with it so that should be enough for everyone.

 

I'm waiting for the pouting and complaining from BigSpikes about what everyone else is saying to stop and see what HE thinks about it. Did the one half punishment fit the crime?

 

So far BigSpikes has justified it because someone took of Spikes' helmet during the game and because it's a rivalry game. Seems about right to me

 

I don't know if you ever played sports, but when you're playing in a game in which you don't like the other players, you are going to react differently than if you were playing another team. And I wasn't pouting, O.R., I got angry because he's my favorite Gator of all-time, and there were people making him out to be something he wasn't. He's a college student who made a mistake, and yet some people want him to be done for up to three games. Really? Three games? I watched the clip and I didn't see something that merited three games, if it were me I would have suspended him for the whole game.

No, but Immoral? Really? Do you ever do anything in the heat of the moment that you regret? One bad act doesn't define a person. Give the guy a break, we've never seen anything like this from him before. do

You shook his hand once... saying you know he is a good person is as absurd as people saying he is a thug just from this act.

 

Suspend him for the whole game at least... come on it is Vandy at home for crying out loud.

I've lost a lot of respect for Coach Meyer. A half against Vandy is silly.

 

I agree with those that say this was much worse than the kid from Oregon. No question. You can't dig repeatedly at a guy's eyes. That goes way beyond the retaliation and the subsequent overreaction by the Oregon kid.

 

You simply cannot defend Spikes' actions. You can't refute any "thug" "punk" claim that will come his way. Athletics bring out the people really are vs the way fans think they are after they meet them or simply "root" for them. This kid is a punk.

There is a difference in getting up for a rival/playing with more emotion and playing dirty.

Agree 100%. This showed exactly what kind of person he is.

Not sure how anyone could defend Spikes in this case. He could have seriously injured the other player doing what he did. I understand dirty things go on in a pile, but this is a little ridiculous IMO.

 

I think at least a 1-2 game suspension would have been necessary. A 3 game suspension wouldn't have been excessive either IMO. Players need to know that this type of action is not OK.
