November 3, 200916 yr Rumor is that Urban did give Spikes the most severe punishment that he considered. Rumored to be considered: Banning him from post-practice sprints. Banning him from classes for a half a day. No dessert at the training table. Requiring him to buckle all 4 straps on his chinstrap. Give it up for Coach Meyer. He's obviously a disciplinarian.
November 3, 200916 yr Yes. IMO, you should support everyone on your team. You don't have to agree with the mistakes they've made but most of us don't see the flaws of our favorite teams/athletes. No one thinks that what Spikes did wasn't wrong. No one (I hope) should think that he shouldn't be punished. If most of "us" don't see the flaws in our our favorite teams/athletes then that is sad. I'm not saying we should crucify anyone, but unconditional support of athletes because they play for our favorite teams is silly IMO. Sometimes, for the good of the TEAM, people need to be cut loose.
November 3, 200916 yr I'm not surprised, just like Ram said, this stuff happens alot, anyone ever wonder why offensive players that where contacts seem to lose them so much, or why alot of RB's like to where visors. Dude should have to sit a few games but I'm not surprised he doesn't.
November 3, 200916 yr They don't wear visors for someone trying to poke their eyes in the pile. I played for 8 years and have watched almost my entire life and have never seen that done before.

So you mean to say you never saw people take groin shots, or pinch or scrape in the pile either? Sure the eyes are more serious, but it's still assault in the pile, which happens and if people don't believe it does then they're naive or suppressing some sort of bad memories because it does.
November 3, 200916 yr Again, the SEC should have stepped in where Florida didn't. You can bet if someone did it to Tim Tebow, there would be a trial and a public hanging in the courtyard. Can the NCAA step in if the SEC won't? I could see where the SEC doesn't want to make it look as though Meyer is out of line or not up to their standards almost makes you wonder if they're wanting someone else to do it for them, or maybe that's what Meyer wanted...

Exactly my point the eyes. I have seen the other stuff, and had it done to me, but never anyone trying to poke my eyes out.

November 3, 200916 yr You're not reading all my post. I've watched football for 44 years reffed it for about 20 and again it's the first time I've seen anyone do what Spikes did. Have you seen it before? Now I did see a kid try to kick another in the face, but not dig in his face mask with both hands.

Have I seen it, no not first hand, but I have heard from guys that other players went after their eyes.
November 3, 200916 yr This stuff does happen all the time, but it doesn't make it right. Usually it just is not caught on tape what goes on at the bottom of piles. However since he did get caught, he should definitely be suspended for more than just a half. I mean what he did was trying to hurt someone, I don't know how that shouldn't be a big punishment. It should be about a two game suspension IMO.
November 3, 200916 yr Author Here is link to the running backs theory on what should happen to spikes. Interesting to say the least.:idunno:
