I'm curious to know why people think it's inappropriate, odd, unusual (insert whatever word you want) for an adult to wear a "beat CovCath" tee shirt but assumably don't have a problem with wearing a ball cap with an "H" on it? Aren't both just a way of expressing school and team pride? Yes the tee shirt singles out one opponent, but what's wrong with that particularly if it's worn to an event involving Highlands and CovCath, our biggest rival? Adults show up at the games and cheer for Highlands to beat CovCath with no questioning comment made, so what's wrong with wearing a tee shirt that in effect does the same thing?

 

I don't wear one of those tee shirts but that's probably only because tee shirts aren't real flattering to my figure.

 

Admittedly, the "again" part is a little smug, but I feel quite confident that if the shoe was on the other foot, a lot of CovCath supporters would be doing the same. One of those "to the victor goes the spoils of the war" thing.

 

By the way, I know I've seen CovCath adults wearing "beat Highlands" tee shirts at football games in the past. I'm pretty certain that it was the 07 regular season game at CovCath when the CovCath fans were feeling giddy after beating Highlands twice in 06.

 

No big deal to me either way.

I was going to say this same thing. I've seen many adults wearing the Cov Cath version.

I too have seen Cov Cath adults wearing them, and even as a Cov Cath fan, I guess I just don't think it is appropriate. I guess my thinking is, those shirts are for the students. When I see adults wearing these same shirts, I immediately think it is another case of a parent trying to live thru their kid.

 

Wearing of a hat, or a school shirt is different. You are supporting the school. Wearing a shirt that in my mind anyway is intended for the kids, is different.

So I suppose a 'Beat Highlands' tatoo be out on a middle aged man, then?

Is it a problem when a fan of a college team wears a shirt about another college team? If not, can't see the problem with it at the high school level.

 

With as much time, effort, and money that those parents put in to their kids athletics they can wear whatever they please, within reason.

I guess if the adults all got together and said we all need to buy the shirt, and wear to the game together to root on our sons, well, then ok. The kids have fun with them, designing them, etc, all wearing them to show unity, support etc. In my mind anyway, Let the kids do their thing. I have had my sons tell me to not do certain things before, if they felt like I was trying to in some way be 'one of them' I was the dad and they are the sons. I guess they were afraid I would embarass them in some way. (none of these situations involved the shirts by the way) I guess I see these shirts as the students shirts. Let them have their fun with them.

The funny thing about the whole thread is, the adult that I think was being referenced early in the thread is not a parent of a current student,(had a daughter graduate a few years ago) never had a son play football, did not attend Highlands, and only recently moved to the Fort. He is just a fan of Highlands football.:ylsuper:

We buy the latest version each year and I wear mine mainly when I'm going to be around my family of friends who went to CCH. Got to get in my digs you know.

Just wanted to get some opinions to see which line in the sand I am standing. I saw quite a few middle aged fans at the Highlands/CovCath Freshman football game tonight sporting Beat CovCath t-shirts. It just looked odd to me. I don't remember seeing adults wear Beat Highlands t-shirts, but maybe I just did not notice. I'm going out on a limb here and predict my son, a class of 2008 graduate of CovCath, will never wear his Beat Highlands t-shirt the rest of his life. Does anyone have a problem with adults participating in this long traditional attire?

 

I wouldnt wear it personally and I think it looks kind of silly on older adults but if your just out of HS and want to wear it I dont see a problem. I will stick to my H visor and Bird shirts to support the teams. Oh and the Free BGP stuff that I get from Guru :taz:

I think that it is ok only if your relative is playing. I believe that Nephew/grandson is as far as the term "relative" reaches.
