It's been done many times ... about once a year on average.

As someone already said, it happens a lot. You usually see it AT LEAST once a year too. That is one of the good things about having two different districts playing each other in the first round, because someone's 4 seed might be better than a 1 seed in the other district.

Didn't Simon Kenton just do it last year?

My Jr year we got hot and beat a 1 seed that had beaten us by almost 40 at our place earlier in the year. We won at their place in double OT without our starting QB! We might have been a 3 seed can't remember if it was that or a 4. Went on and pulled a couple more upsets and were 4 points from playing in the state championship where the team that beat us lost by 3! Anything is possible come playoff time!

Yes, I am pretty sure Simon Kenton was a 4 seed. So not only did a #4 seed beat a #1, Simon Kenton went on to be the runner up. Did they also win a tiebreaker to be the #4 seed?

Just in the biggest class (4-A from 95 to 06 and 6-A from 07 & 08) it's only NOT happened in 2004.

The list:

1995: (4-A)

Seneca 27 - PRP 21

Henry Clay 13 - Madison Central 12

1996: (4-A)

Iroquois 25 - Butler 22 (In my opinion, the biggest playoff upset ever in Jefferson County)

Lafayette 27 - Henry Clay 15

1997: (4-A)

Central Hardin 14 - Henderson Co. 12

Jeffersontown 22 - Doss 20

1998: (4-A)

Eastern 28 - PRP 21

1999: (4-A)

Madisonville 14 - Apollo 10

2000: (4-A)

Marshall Co. 47 - Apollo 21

2001: (4-A)

Shelby Co. 19 - Boone Co. 17

Scott Co. 17 - Whitley Co. 7

2002: (4-A)

Seneca 33 - Meade Co. 20

Henry Clay 28 - Madison Central 6

2003: (4-A)

Shelby Co. 21 - Conner 15

2005: (4-A)

Christian Co. 32 - Henderson Co. 27

Scott Co. 24 - Madison Central 22

2006: (4-A)

Campbell Co. 32 - Boone Co. 29 (OT)

Woodford Co. 43 - Lafayette 24

2007: (6-A)

Nelson Co. 34 - Greenwood 28

Shelby Co. 60 - Scott Co. 56

2008: (6-A)

Seneca 35 - Daviess Co. 34 (OT)

Simon-Kenton 33 - Lafayette 6

I'm quite sure it happens just as frequently in the other classes as well.

Actually I think Bourbon was the 4 seed and went on to win the call 2A Championship. Anyone care to help me out here. If i am right they beat Boyle Co in the playoffs that year Boyle was 11-1

Iroquois and Butler was special, I was at that game

Simon Kenton I believe beat 3 Number 1 seeds last year, Lafyette, Boone, and Male. I am not sure if Male was a 1 seed or not.

Best first round playoff game I ever saw was between a #4 seed and #1 seed. North Laurel #4 at Scott County #1. Scott County won with a TD in the final minute, but trailed for most of the game. While I was cheering for NL and Scott County won, it was still a great game. Big plays on defense by both teams the entire night. Rawlings Stadium is a great place for a HS playoff game as well.

Actually I think Bourbon was the 4 seed and went on to win the call 2A Championship. Anyone care to help me out here. If i am right they beat Boyle Co in the playoffs that year Boyle was 11-1

Bourbon County was a #3 seed from their district.

They upset:

11-0 #1 ranked Boyle after losing to the Rebels handily in the season.

9-3 Catholic team that was actually one seed lower due to tie in the district.

#1 seed Lawrence County (13-0) in the Semi-Finals

#1 seed Owensboro Catholic (12-2) in the Championship.

The first 4 seed to beat a 1 seed was Conner (beat Ashland) in 1993.

I'm still amazed that that team won it all.

I'm still amazed that that team won it all.

As is Boyle, Lex Cath, Lawrence County, and Owensboro Catholic to this day.
