What Beechwood did last year is exactly this, last year. Fine team, won state. Different set of boys now. If Beechwood wins state it has nothing to do with last year.

Nobody in class 1A can compete or defeat LCA it's just not going to happen

 

In my opinion if LCA was to play Mayfield it go like this:

LCA 35

Mayfield 14

 

LCA was to play Beechwood, it go like this:

LCA 24

Beechwood 17

Possibly Pikeville with Boyle Co, Belfry, Pres'Burg, Cov Holy Cross and SClark..None of those are as good as Highlands, but, Boyle is better than the other 3 and the other 4 on Pikevilles schedule could hold there own against any of the other 3 on Beechwoods... But, I hear what your saying and don't totally disagree...With me, though, the Beechies weren't competitve with CC or Dixie and they have been in the past, even beating them(Dixie, last year) while I feel Dixie and CC are relatively similar to there past teams. In addition, past Beechwood teams would have beaten this years Holy Cross and Bellevue teams by 40+, regardless of weather conditions. This year, it was nip and tuck. They did win, however, and I don't see anyone expecting a walk in the park against them,but, to me, anyway, it's pretty apparent they aren't the same Tiger team as they've been in the past...

I'm sorry for that. It was LCA beat Hazard in Nov. 49-7. And then LCA turned around and got beat by Hazard in DEC. I think the score was 28-21. A big big turnaround.

I do understand what you were trying to type. I have that effect on people sometimes!! And I hope people understand what I was trying to convey on that post.

Dixie has been similarly ranked in 5a the past couple of years. Same with CC, although the yr they won it, they were a bit higher.. Holy Cross has had similar rankings as well and a couple of yrs ago, Bellevue was undefeated for a big portion of the yr, maybe 1 loss, can't remember and Beechwood handled them pretty convincingly. My only point is, Beechwood isn't as good as they have been in yrs past. I think most would agree. That's not saying they aren't capable of beating any team in 1a, on a given day, because they are. I just think too much credit is being put on there schedule. I remember alot of yrs Mayfield played brutal schedules, but, that didn't give them a trophy and Pikeville, for example, has played a very solid schedule this yr, but, I don't hear people clamoring they'll win a title because of it. That's all I'm saying. Sure, I think it'll help them in the long run, but, I just don't see them winning it this yr or being a favorite like some have proclaimed. We'll know soon enough, I suppose... As the season has marched on, I think Mayfield has closed the ratings gap between themselves and LCA. I consider it very close between those two as we enter the last game, but I agree with LCA at #1. If Corbin beats LCA, then I would have to think Mayfield will enter the playoffs ranked #1. If LCA beats Corbin, then they deserve #1. One fact working against Mayfield since the season started is the past couple of years. LCA has been excellent, including a state runner up with quite a few of the key players who started as sophomores on that team now being seniors. Mayfield's past couple of years have caused more of a show me attitude from those of us who haven't seen them in person. Mayfield is doing a great job of showing us how good they are and that is why they are a close #2 right now in the rankings. But you know what? Starting next week, none of this ratings stuff really matters because you get chance to prove it on the field through the playoffs. At the end of the day on December 4, no one will care who was rated what today.

Has everything to do with last year and the year before and the year before ect. It's called tradition. Certain programs learn to win and nothing else is acceptable. There is no first and second there is only first and then there is everyone else. While these kids will have to win on their own they can certainly draw from the work ethic and the great tradition of Beechwood Football's past. They will strive to live up to the expectations that the kids from last year and the year before and the year before have set for them.

Funny how some who may not be used to winning on a regular basis do not understand this. How many teams are still running 100 yard sprints at this point in the season?

I understand the rankings but Beechwood is the best Class A team in the State until proven otherwise. Their non-conference schedule has well prepared them for another State Championship run. I don't know another Class A team in the State who has 4 non-conference teams like Dixie Heights, Highlands, Cov-Cath., and New-Cath. on their schedule.

Wow, way to heap it on. From reading this post, I'd hate to see what will happen to these young men from Beechwood if they don't bring home the gold.
