I assume you are referring to one of my posts. Please read carefully...it reads "they would shell most 1A teams...then I specified "inexperienced teams in their first games of the season". I don't think LCA or Mayfield falls into the inexperienced category.

 

You forgot to mention the "if not all" part of your quote. That was the part I wanted to point out in my rebuttal. And, for the most part, I agree with you, but, I don't think LCA or Mayfield would get shelled by Dixie or CCath. Lose, possibly, but, shelled, no.

Other than Mayfield and Crittenden County, who Mayfield exposed last week and has been in the top five most of the year, I'm not sure what other "respect" should be heaped on WKY in Class 1A.

 

Quite frankly, WKY doesn't have a good track record once they reach Louisville. Fort Campbell the past two years is the exception. Mayfield got drummed in their last trip to the finals in 2005.

 

Fort Campbell has won two straight 2A titles and appear on track for a third, which has never been done in Class 2A. However, Owensboro Catholic and Glasgow lost back to back state titles coming from the west in the 2000s.

 

Bowling Green lost three straight title games, two of those in old Class 3A. The last "WKY" school to win 3A? Bowling Green in 1995.

 

Christian County in 1984 is the last 4A team from WKY to win the title.

In reality, though, if you throw out a hand full of teams outside the triangle, there's been very similar results from the other parts of the state, not just West Ky.

 

Trinity has had a stranglehold on 6a(prev 4a) for a long time with an occassional St X, Male champion. When was the last time someone other than 1 of these 3 have won it.

 

In 5a, (prev 3a), Highlands has been dominant there with Lex Cath and Cov Cath and Boyle having a little success.

 

Beechwood, NCC, Central and Danville have pretty much dominated the smaller classes.

 

So, is it as much geographics or is it just a few really good programs in the triangle, which is the largest populated areas?

 

You could say West Ky dominates 2a because of Ft Campbells recent success, but, it's not West Ky doing it, it's Ft Campbell doing it.

 

The same could be said for 6a and Louisville, but, is it the Louisville area dominating 6a or is it 2 programs dominating it.

 

I just feel it's the latter, not the area the champion comes from...

My earlier post wasnt about disrespect or crying or what ever. I was just responding to how the votes are tallied. Your record strength of schedule, the usual stuff. I just happened to look up the top 3 teams to check out their schedules and to see how their their season had went. I really dont know if Mayfield, LCA or Bwood is the #1 team but there has to be some critieria just for conversations sake. To me, LCA has had 1 lose plus a 1 point victory against a 3-6 team. Beechwood has lost 3 times. Mayfield has had one close game against the #1 rated and defending state 2A champ in Tenn. I know this all really means zero but If your going to rate teams based on what I have seen and you tell Mayfield has only garnered 1 1st place vote, it just makes me wonder. I also think Im very objective and I see how LCA gets some 1st place votes and I can even see how you could even find some arguement for Beechwood. I know this all going to be settled on the field and someone here going to say I told you so.

:thumb::thumb: I wouldn't ever say I told you so. I do think Mayfield has just as good a chance to win it all as any other team. Four things need to happen for a team to win it all. 1. Luck 2. Good health 3. Team speed 4. Great coaching. Sounds like you have 3 and 4 already!

There is always a chance a lower seed team could make it to the title game. Ask LCA. In Nov. last year LCA beat Pikeville by 42 points. In the reg. final game LCA lost to the same team, And Pikeville went to the finals. So thats where luck and health comes in. The LCA coach said they were so beat up from the game before they just couldn't compete. So WE never know till the last whistle blows. Good luck to all teams in the playoffs. From Raceland to Fulton County. From Covington to Middlesboro and Ft Campbell. Good luck in the playoffs from all corners of the state. A lot of years I believe the best team doesn't win it all. You must be good and lucky.

As the season has marched on, I think Mayfield has closed the ratings gap between themselves and LCA. I consider it very close between those two as we enter the last game, but I agree with LCA at #1. If Corbin beats LCA, then I would have to think Mayfield will enter the playoffs ranked #1. If LCA beats Corbin, then they deserve #1. One fact working against Mayfield since the season started is the past couple of years. LCA has been excellent, including a state runner up with quite a few of the key players who started as sophomores on that team now being seniors. Mayfield's past couple of years have caused more of a show me attitude from those of us who haven't seen them in person. Mayfield is doing a great job of showing us how good they are and that is why they are a close #2 right now in the rankings. But you know what? Starting next week, none of this ratings stuff really matters because you get chance to prove it on the field through the playoffs. At the end of the day on December 4, no one will care who was rated what today.

I'm sorry for that. It was LCA beat Hazard in Nov. 49-7. And then LCA turned around and got beat by Hazard in DEC. I think the score was 28-21. A big big turnaround.

I do understand what you were trying to type. I have that effect on people sometimes!! And I hope people understand what I was trying to convey on that post.

It doesn't matter who they schedule. What did they do against them? Were the games close or blowouts?

I understand the rankings but Beechwood is the best Class A team in the State until proven otherwise. Their non-conference schedule has well prepared them for another State Championship run. Possibly Pikeville with Boyle Co, Belfry, Pres'Burg, Cov Holy Cross and SClark..None of those are as good as Highlands, but, Boyle is better than the other 3 and the other 4 on Pikevilles schedule could hold there own against any of the other 3 on Beechwoods... But, I hear what your saying and don't totally disagree...With me, though, the Beechies weren't competitve with CC or Dixie and they have been in the past, even beating them(Dixie, last year) while I feel Dixie and CC are relatively similar to there past teams. In addition, past Beechwood teams would have beaten this years Holy Cross and Bellevue teams by 40+, regardless of weather conditions. This year, it was nip and tuck. They did win, however, and I don't see anyone expecting a walk in the park against them,but, to me, anyway, it's pretty apparent they aren't the same Tiger team as they've been in the past...
