I've heard tons of folks from Eastern Ky playing the "we out east dont get any respect" card, over the years. Ram, to say it's simply a West Ky thing is a joke. Matter of fact, I've heard it much more from the mountain area in Eastern Ky than any other geographic area.

Fact is, teams like Beechwood have earned there respect over the years because traditionally, they perform when it counts and normally, they're the most talented or at least one of the top 2in talent in there class. So, I have no issue with talking them up, because they're a proven commodity. I do think, however, that theres 2 teams out there with more talent than them this year and deserve to be ranked ahead of them based on how they've performed.

 

I will say this, Beechwood could lose all 22 starters, have 1/2 there team with season ending injuries and 3 or 4 projected other starters quit the team prior to the start of the season and I would bet a hundred dollars somehow, someway, they'd still be the BGP preseason #1 team. Is that right, I don't think it is, but, like I said, I have no problem with it. They've proven themselves. Other teams, not so much.

 

By the way, I don't think Dixie or Cov Cath would destroy every 1a team out there this year, most, yes, but, all, no....

It was started and supported by a large contingent from eastern KY namely those of us in the Raceland bunch. So his post is by no means off base. Ram can attest to that fact. Rams68, 1st off, I'm not upset at all nor was I when I wrote my post.

 

2nd, reread , where did I say mountain boys? Those were your words.

 

3rd, I said "over the years" on the No respect card and sorry, I'm not going searching for post from past years, but, I've certainly read them more than a few times. Just making the point it happens elsewhere other than Western Ky.

 

4th, I was exagerating a bit (intentionally, mind you) to make a point, in reference to Beechwood, but, if you'll also note, I said I have no problem with it and they deserve there props, not once, but twice.

 

Lastly, why do you think I was upset simply by stating an opinion on Dixie and CCath? And yes, that's my opinion and yes I said that a few weeks ago and yes I still believe that and in no way shape or form was I upset when I wrote it, simply having an opinion.

I assume you are referring to one of my posts. Please read carefully...it reads "they would shell most 1A teams...then I specified "inexperienced teams in their first games of the season". I don't think LCA or Mayfield falls into the inexperienced category.

 

With so many injuries to key players from the two scrimmage games...they had as many as 8 soph's on both sides of the ball at critical times in those games. Whether BW goes deep into the playoff's or not remains to be seen, but the experience these kids have gotten this season has been invaluable.

Fort Campbell has won two straight 2A titles and appear on track for a third, which has never been done in Class 2A. However, Owensboro Catholic and Glasgow lost back to back state titles coming from the west in the 2000s.

 

Bowling Green lost three straight title games, two of those in old Class 3A. The last "WKY" school to win 3A? Bowling Green in 1995.

 

Christian County in 1984 is the last 4A team from WKY to win the title.

As the season has marched on, I think Mayfield has closed the ratings gap between themselves and LCA.

I think the gap was largely closed the night that Mayfield beat Trousdale County, but some people chose not to notice it for a little while longer ...

The Scribe you are asking for trouble. Great info though! That said, I till think Mayfield, Murray and Ft Campbell are having a great year. And for that they have earned my respect. Just some want to cry. And think they might in some round about way get it. But most of the time that tactic backfires and goes against you.

Add Paducah Tilghman to the list, which lost three straight Class 3A title games from 1987-89 and another in 1991, two to Covington Catholic and two to Highlands.

 

Those of us here always know that the farther west you are, the more you have to do to get statewide attention. And given the way we've stunk it up in Louisville for most of the last 25 years, it deserves for it to be that way for us.

Everyone has opinions. And schedules and stats can be twisted anyway to suit your teams arguement. I do it all the time:lol:. It's what gets us through our football addiction between fridays. But that's why we have the playoffs. To find out who's team is the best. Talking about rankings and stats is just that, talking. It's all in fun, there's no need to take it to heart or get upset. We'll find out who the real champion is come December.

spindoc, I have been on here only 14 months. And I have never read the things I hear from a hand full of fans from the western part of the state. Not from the Ashland area, Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Belfry, Pikeville anywhere. It must have happened before my time on BGP. But if you post something like that to try and get people to say things you will get what you ask for. But to come out and just blame BGP as being bias on any thread it just doesn't happen over here. I think it's totally wrong. I don't think it happens. M.O. of course.

Anybody remember the Johnsonville hoopla? That was interesting...
