Has everything to do with last year and the year before and the year before ect. It's called tradition. Certain programs learn to win and nothing else is acceptable. There is no first and second there is only first and then there is everyone else. While these kids will have to win on their own they can certainly draw from the work ethic and the great tradition of Beechwood Football's past. They will strive to live up to the expectations that the kids from last year and the year before and the year before have set for them.

 

This a very good post. Any team or coaching staff would love to be in that situation. When you win that first one. Then every player coming up through the ranks thinks the same. But if you just keep getting close you always have in the back of your mind. Can we really do this. A big differance between we can and can we. It's had to get over that hump. That is why so few have done it. And when you have built that type of system. It puts pressure on the coaches, players and fans alike. Because if you don't win it all you failed. Most teams are satified with winning a district title. And some have to win the region for satisfaction. But teams like Beechwood, Boyle Co and a few others it's a failed season to say they only went to the state finals. I know last year is last year. But it's called building!! And we all will be watching.:popcorn::popcorn:

Wow, way to heap it on. From reading this post, I'd hate to see what will happen to these young men from Beechwood if they don't bring home the gold.

Don't you think that if Mayfield had won several state titles. All or most of you that are Mayfield Cardinal fans would be saying the same thing? At that point you would not be saying things like ........whats the word .....oh yes, tradition. You would have it and using it just like they do.

When you've won like 30 or the past 33 district titles and about 28 regional titles in that same span, those things don't mean near as much..With them, it's one goal and one goal only, just like Beechwoods..

Mayfield has 7 state titles. In 95 who did they beat? Beechwood the defending 1A champ. In 02 Mayfield beat Danville in the semi-finals, the defending state champ and Beechwood in the finals. Beechwood might win the state title this year but because they won last year means very little .

It's always teams goal to go all the way!! BUT it's human nature to be satisfied with a district or regional championship if you have never won it all. I'm sure very student in Mayfield or any other school are very happy that they have those regional and district trophys in the hallway of the schools. But teams that have had that state championship trophy feeling a few times. For them it has to be different. They only want one trophy. Those others are almost nothing to them. We all want to be champs. It's every teams goal.......... Now I doubt that Mayfield when they have won all of those regional titles were not happy. And I bet they were happy going to the state. And I bet that it gets talked about all over town what that team did and how they could have won the big one. But what ever. You can always twist things. :deadhorse: Happy and Satisfied are two different things!!

I think we are talking FOOTBALL. Heck we have state titles in other sports. But football is to me on another level.

We each have our own opinion. I've been there and done that and in my opinion it makes a difference if the expectations and the experience are in place. With that being said you still have to have the talent to win. By the way I'm a Bellevue guy not Beechwood. I just respect the program they built.

I am very impressed with Mayfield, when the Panthers hosted them in 2007, Frankfort won by a score of about 42-14, but that was a young Mayfield team, they have strengthened, just I feel LCA is the powerhouse of class 1A, nothing against Mayfield they have a wonderful team.

If memory serves, Mayfield had some injuries that game, too ... nothing that would have changed the outcome, but some that could have made the game more competitive.

 

I wasn't there, but Mayfield fans that were said that Frankfort team was for real. It's a shame they won't be at full strength for the playoffs, either.

It was 35-14, just clarifying, not that it matters, nor, does it matter much in 2009...
