Also, many people wonder where Greenup County got the "Musketeers". Greenup County is a consolidation of three, former schools, Greenup City, McKell, and Wurtland. The new Consolidated Greenup County was named the "Musketeers" as a play on the Three Musketeers, one for each of the schools that was consolidated.

Yes, the Green comes from "Green"up.

Greenup City was Green and White

McKell was Blue and Gold

I think Wurtland was Black and White

 

Greenup County is Green, Black and Gold. One color from each school.

Seneca went from Redskins to Red Hawks several years ago. Shawnee used to be the Indians but is now the Golden Eagles. Iroquois is still the Raiders, but they use a dog as a mascot instead of an Indian. And Western is still the Warriors, but their logo is similar to a Spartan or Trojan.

In Louisville; the Seneca High School Redskins became the Redhawks. Don't know when.

Harrodsburg merged into Mercer County.

 

Even though there was ALREADY a Mercer County High (school did NOT change its name), MCHS switched from Scotties to Titans.

Well...technically, the new school is called Mercer County SENIOR High, but I'm not sure anyone calls them that. I seem to recall banners in their gym a few years ago that said MCSHS.

My high school's nickname is the "Senators". We didn't have a mascot, although now they use a guy dressed in colonial era clothing. My rival high school was the "Riders" (The School is named after Caesar Rodney.....he's a famous guy in Delaware and early American History, look him up for the story if you don't know it. He also was on the back of Delaware's quarter). The strangest nickname in Delaware is Salesianum High School's nickname. They are a large, all boys Catholic School (Kinda the Trinity of Delaware), and their nickname is the "Sallies", which is just short for the school name. No other school in the Country uses the nickname "Sallies". There's also another private academy in the state that uses a name that no other school in the country uses. The Archmere Academy Auks. (an Auk is a small bird that lives in the ocean, only coming ashore to breed).

I drove by a small school in Michigan one time that I thought was cool. They are the Dexter Dreadnaughts. The mascot is a battleship.

Elizabethtown is technically "senior" as well.

Its middle school is Talton K. Stone Junior High School.

 

But E'town never goes by ESHS.

Oh, I agree completely. Nobody calls it "Mercer Senior." And I'm guessing the name Titans came from Remember the Titans, whose consolidation was similar to that of Mercer/Harrodsburg.
