Since this is an area match-up I figured I'd show this article from The Advocate-Messenger. It's really not about this match-up, it's really more about how Boyle County could be the only winning team in the area.

Mercer is very young, but they have a great coaching staff now! No doubt Boyle will steamroll them, I'm sure they want to beat mercer worse than Breathitt did. The score could get ugly. But next year and the year after, we'll see if Mercer is building something special, or was it a one hit wonder!

However, if they had been playing in their true class that year they would have been playing Covington Catholic. Jackson and Ford would not have been enough, Russell should have been the 2A Champions that year.

They had enought students that they should have been playing against the "Big 3" as you called them and they would have lost. Mercer's championship deserves a big asterisk.

 

Mercer has a 1500 less boys than the big 3 and 75 more than Russell. Cov Cath is an all boys school that has no district boundaries. Put an asterisk next to their State Titles since you think Mercer should have one. Why didn't Harlan County win a state title last year after their rmerger since they had alot more than the class they played in? Henderson County has 2200 students why haven't they won a state title?

Mercer County won their 5A district last year and went undefeated in only their 2nd year in 5A. I believe they can win it again this year. They have as much talent as anyone in their distict.

This will be ugly. Boyle is loaded this year. Chuck Smith would be proud of this team.

I would like you to answer this question: According to the KHSAA rules should Mercer County have been playing in 2A in 2006? It is a simple yes or no question. Tell the truth, its okay.....we already know the answer.

I really don't think Mercer is as bad as many of you believe. Thay have some athletes and some good size. Plus a new head coach. Not to mention things had gotten pretty bad there last year with their coach. Will they win? No. But they are better than you think.

 

I agree :thumb: IMO I think Mercer will play Boyle better than everyone thinks. I do not think they will win, but will give Boyle a game in the first half.
