Hard to believe that Mercer has fallen this far this fast. I remember a few years ago when Mercer County fans insisted that their title had nothing to do with their team being allowed to play down a class. We saw all kinds of pictures of their facilities and were told how they were a rising dynasty. Since then they are 11-16. So I have to believe they were lucky to be allowed to play down since they've had no success in their own class?

They would have at least made it to the Finals. Cory Jackson and Brandon Ford were the best tandem of high school running backs I have ever seen on one team. They benefited more from the timing of the merger than the actual playing down. I truly believe that with that team's defense and those two running backs, they could have competed with everyone in the state outside of the big 3. They were that good and anyone who saw that team play knew it.

 

 

Mercer County is young and I expect them to be one of the top 10 teams in 5A when this sophomore class is seniors. I think they can be that good. This year, and next Friday, they will take their lumps.

However, if they had been playing in their true class that year they would have been playing Covington Catholic. Jackson and Ford would not have been enough, Russell should have been the 2A Champions that year.

They had enought students that they should have been playing against the "Big 3" as you called them and they would have lost. Mercer's championship deserves a big asterisk.

I don't deny that it doesn't deserve an asterisk, but I think they would have beaten everyone in 5A with the possible exception of that year's CovCath team. We'll never know, but that team was a great team regardless of class. That team against CovCath would have been a better game than you think.

Mercer will be fine this year and the coming years. I still think they will have a say in the district race this year. Their non district schedule has been tough and as long as the kids keep working and stay positive they could very well win their district. Their young kids are gaining valuable experience playing the teams they are playing that will do nothing but make them better down the line!

Nothing that these 2 people say should EVER be taken serious on here again. As a matter of fact, they should be banned for being stupid! Not in a 1,000 games could Mercer beat Boyle this year.

I seriousely doubt that Mercer would drop Boyle from their schedule due to being whipped. Unlike Anderson Co., Mercer won't drop someone from their schedule just because they got whupped.
