There are obviously several million people that disagree with you, or Fox wouldn't renew the show every year.

 

Several people like Britney Spears as well. That doesn't mean she's a good musician. :lol:

On a side note, I like Ellen DeGeneres and this might get me to watch a few of the early episodes.

I think she is a terrible choice. What kind of music back ground does she have? How can she be expected to critique people's music when she'll have no idea what she is talking about. She might be good for a few laughs at the very beginning of the show, but I don't see what she brings to the table when it gets serious.

I agree. They're selling out for the sake of ratings. It takes a lot of integrity away from the show when people are to be judged by someone with no background or expertise in the subject. At least Paula had some training in music.

I wasn't actually suggesting that they take it off the air.

 

I realize people watch it...I just can't stand the show and if I could pick and choose, this show would go away forever.

Realistically, the only 2 judges with a 'real' music background would be Randy Jackson and Kara Dioguardi (sp). Simon has been on the management end so I guess that counts, but Paula? I don't see where she really has any musical ability. A good dancer but have you ever heard her live? Not good. I don't think Paula brought much to the table but positive reinforcement and some laughter. Ellen will bring laughter, but on purpose.

 

As far as musical ability, I agree that she isn't the best choice. There are a TON of people I would rather have on that show that would add legitimacy to more viewers. They have had some pretty good 'guest' judges that would have been MUCH better choices. But in the end, the show is ultimately about entertainment. Once they get to the big stage, it isn't up he judges who wins anymore and it simply is just entertainment at that point.

 

To me the best part of the show are the really bad auditions.

Ellen said on her show that she didn't have the musical background like the other judges do, obviously, but that she will be kind of like the "people's" vote. She'll be voicing what the people hear, not necessarily all of the musical terms and techniques, but what the people like and vote on. She said herself that she loves the show and hasn't missed an episode, so it seems like she'll do a good job.

I'm not a fan of Ellen, but she will be a lot more entertaining than listening to Paula ramble on about how great an awful performance was because Simon hurt the contestants feelings... :idunno:

Paula was nice to look at when sober :0).....should have brought in a looker!
