NKY Middle School Basketball League

Anybody know what's going through the Campbell Co 8th grade coach's head??!!?? How do you explain 2 top AAU players (made it to the final 4 at state last year) not making the school team? Was this good old CC politics at it's best?

PM afi100guy, he may have some insight on the situation.

Who are they? What team did they play for last year? Wow, this is surprising? Who is the coach? Is this his first year?

They played for NKY Wolfpack. Coach is Bradshaw, it's his 1st year coaching 8th grade.

One of the players not making the team, was probably one of the scoring leaders in the NKMSBL last year, at least in the top 5. He's also a great student!

The other kid not making the team is one of the most pure athletes at that age. He's been talked about on other threads during football season. He's also a very good basketball player.:irked::idunno:

Send them to Ft. Thomas we'll take them..:D

Red and Black just south would welcome them.

I guess this is why Schweitzer transferred to Highlands!

I have no inside information on this one. I know that the 2 players are very good and helped lead the NKY Wolfpack to the State AAU Semis in the spring. Coaches make decisions for a number of reasons. Some of these make sense and some don't. This one has me shaking my head.

I think a parent was involved in the tryout decisions. It's also ironic that some of the kids who made the team (and can't walk and chew gum at the same time) go to church with the coach. Things that make you go Hmmm???

I am new to BGP and I find this very interesting. I heard there was a parent who was going to be a volunteer assistant. But I also heard he was going to have nothing to do with the tryouts. So who would have been involved??

I am very curious to know who the player is that was not on the list. If it is who I think it is then it was probably a very very big mistake.

I heard the same thing; that he would have nothing to do with tryouts. But I know he was at tryouts. Actually there were at least two parents (of kids with questionable ability) at tryouts. Both kids made the team.

Tryouts at Highlands Middle School are closed door and the only ones typically involved are the coaches at hand and possibly the Varsity/JV coaches. Now with that said, I know that parents have the right to be in the gym if they want to push the buttons of the administration. This happened a few years ago at Highlands from what I heard by a parent who had a talented 6th grader trying out for the 7th grade team. This was before they adopted a 6th Grade program. Apparently the parent was told to hit the bricks and they got upset and went to the administration and forced their way into the next 2 tryout days sitting in the stands alone. I guess they wanted to make sure their son wasnt getting slighted and they could see how he sized up with the other kids. Not much argument if your kid gets cut and you cant be there to see how he did in tryouts. Not a bad move by the parent IMO. The kid definitely should have made the team but could have been a victim of politics, etc

I am sorry. I just don't get this. I realize that the coaches are empowered to pick their team and rightfully so but what do you think the varsity coaches thoughts are on this? Or is he too busy trying to figure out how to make it out of the district....

Tryouts were scheduled the same time as varsity practice. I don't believe any of the high school coaches were present. If they had been I'm sure the 2 would have made the team since one of the assistant varsity coaches is their AAU coach.

It's not always talent that gets you on the team. Coachability, attitude, grades, behavior at school, hustle, etc all play a part. I have no idea what kids you are talking about so I don't know the situation, just saying from a coach's perspective that it is not always talent that gets you on the team. However, I have seen politics play a big part, especially at the high school level. I hope that's not the case.

I have coached both kids in different sports. I have never had any problem with either of them.
