I went up to the middle school at the Highlands tip off and watched Conner play last night. Robinson is the coach and # 14 is Barker. They beat St. Mary's of Alexandria by about 8. Game was a 2 point game at half. The game prior was Guardian Angel of the East side blowing out St. Thomas to earn a match up against Conner on Thursday night. The Barker boy should dominate the smaller but scrappy Angels.

Only losing to the Conner team by 8 this early in the season - not too shabby! Who were the standouts for St. Mary's?

Nobody really stood out for St. Mary's. They played good defense, but offense lacked. The guards shut down the Conner guards, but no answer for the big man on Conner. He probably had half of Conner's points. It was a low scoring game like 32-24?

Can anyone post results from the Highlands Middle School Tip-Off Classic from last night?

Our Lady of Victory vs. St. Joeseph

Highlands vs. St. Catherine

Also, what players stood out?

St. Joseph won the first game, not sure of the score.

Highlands played Holy Trinity and won 55-3. Yes that is the correct score. Holy Trinity appeared to have numerous kids that were either 6th or 7th graders and were not very big at all.

Highlands and St. Joseph square of Thursday night at 6:00

No chance for anyone to shine in 2 blowouts last night. Don't bother going up tonight to watch the loser brackets. Thursday night gives you Guardian Angel vs Conner at 5:00 and St. Joe's versus the host school at 6:00. Should be a good chance to see some fine athletes show their goods early in the season.

Who are the top players for HMS?

I ran the tourney last year and its a huge fundraisor for the 8th grade's Wash Dc trip. I am sure there is no reason for parents of the winning teams to go for scouting purposes but the hometown fans should attend and support the school. JMO Or atleast go up and eat some walking tacos and leave. :idunno:

I havent seen them yet but I would throw out there some names. Brandon Hergott, Andy and Brennan Buten, Drew Houliston, Seth Hope to name a few.

Great point! It is about the fund-raising. I just meant the best games will be on Thursday. I guess it will be Taco time tonight!

Switzer adds some size down low too. Nice, well balanced team with good guards and big men.

Is that the dark haired boy who is about Hergott's size? I think he is related to Matt Roberts who played at Highlands in middle school and then transferred to Moeller. Roberts shot up to 6'8 and got a scholly to Citadel. I see a lot of upside in that kid, he is a workhorse too. They do have a nice mix of guards and bigs, would be nice to have a slasher with athleticism in that starting 5 but for now I can see them raining 3's with the Butens and Houliston and Hergott/Hope and Switzer owning the blocks.

He may be a little "meatier" than Hergot? Not sure who his relatives are. Very nice team. They should win a lot of games.

It's Schweitzer, not Switzer. That dude coached the Cowboys back in the day.

I do remember another big 6' footer last year on the 7th grade HMS team, he had longer black hair. He is who I was referring to but if they have Schwietzer that is just more beef on the block.

Q, you are thinking of Cole Davis-Roberts. He is also big and athletic. HMS has 4 nice size players on the roster and have Nick True playing up to frosh.
