Does anyone else find the bad grammar and misspellings particularly humorous in this thread?

 

It really irks me, but I try not to let it control me.

That's what I'm trying to figure out...:confused:

This thread reminds me of an Email I recently received:

I want to start by saying that a life was lost. RIP.

First of all....If you are going to be here to live...get the papers....then learn English.

Second of all....I am getting really tired of having to hear many different languages before I can press one for my account info. It takes 10 min just to find out what I am supposed to do.

Third....I feel as though I have to read the whole novel before I can find out "who done it"....(actually, what product).

And last, I HATE calling for anything that needs "fixin'"! I can not understand a thing these people are saying over the phone. Not too long ago, our fridge went out. After listening to the recording for 15 min, when, it finally spoke in English, I had to speak to someone that I could not understand. That person was getting more upset than I was so, she got her manager (I understood the lady better than the manager). After about 30 min of this, I hung up, went to Lowe's, explained, and they just traded out for me. It is all a bunch of bunk if you want to ask me.

I don't hate any living creature...that includes people....but, if you are going to live here, do it legally and speak English. That is really not too much to ask.

(ps...I know the people you call are usually not in America anymore...that is a whole other topic)

We have a foster-son in law who is Mexican....I have a couple of uncles that are as well....we have a foster daughter who is African-American....my dad is full blooded Choctaw Indian....I am half....We have a mixture in our family, so, trust me when I say, this is not my point.

If I drown in Mexico because I do not read or speak Spanish can my wife sue Mexico? This is stupid.

I think we are the only Country that worries more about the exceptions.

If someone goes to a lake and there is no one swimming or congregated in an area and the is a big red sign..........

We need more common sense and less lawsuits. JMO

A big red sign that says "DANGER" across the top is pretty universally understood, IMO. I don't think they have any grounds to sue, but they probably will find a lawyer that can make a case for them. I personally think that if you want to live in America, you should be able to speak English.

I don't think that I need to know Latin to apreciate Jennifer Lopez.

I saw an interesting bumper sticker the other day. It said, "Illegal immigration in the US began in 1492."

 

As far as the language issue, I wonder how many of our german, french, scottish, irish and other forefathers spoke english upon immigrating to our country? Studies show that the first generation (parents) usually only learn the language in a very limited way, the second generation become fluently bilingual and the third generation loses the original language and only speaks English.

Clearly there is a sign posted. The colors and letters look like a warning of some type. If I was in Mexico, saw that sign, and could not read Spanish, I would be curious to know what it said before I got in the water.

 

People sue for all ridiculous reasons, so who knows? I doubt illegal aliens would sue because they likely would be deported the day after they filed the lawsuit. Plus, and I risk using general statements about a culture, but I dont think most Hispanic people are as lawsuit greedy and some in America are.

Great post Mrs. PH, I have had some of the exact same frustrations when calling to get something done or to even ask a question, not to mention the calls I get that were not ask for by me about some line of credit or something else and somehow they get around the "no call" list/law by the State atty general's office.

I have nothing personal against these people at all. I don't know them. My point is like many others here......if a person is going to live and work in America, learn OUR language.....not the other way around. A person does not hae to speak perfect English. I realize the different accents (God knows EKY/Appalachia has our own accent :eek:) but I do expect someone whose job is in customer service to be able to speak to where one can understand them. Also, please make sure that they are in this country legally and abide by OUR laws. Should they not want to do that then kick them out.

One other question I have always wondered......."why do we have to press 1 for English" ? :confused:

I think you may be missing our point, if you come hear, learn to speak English. If you want to speak in your native tongue at home, that is your poragative. To conform to the immigrant makes no sense. If you want to learn it to speak to them in their tongue and feel all warm and gooey, go for it. I just think that is is reverse discrimination to have to be bilingual into to be considered "skilled" in America.

Look, Koun Dog has a point. The word NO means the same in Spanish. The sign says NO SWIMMING. If I'm in Mexico and I see a sign with the word NO on it, if I didn't know what the rest of it said, I'd sure try to find out. I hate it that another human being lost his life. But to claim negligence on anyone's part, with the exception of his own or those with him, is just silly.

Same reasoning is used in a Jewish family suing a Catholic School for having a Crucifix hanging in the hallway of the school. They found it offensive and infringing on their freedom of religion. Common sense would be "send him to a Jewish school", but NOOOOOOOOOOO, the Catholic school had to remove the Crucifix to accomodate one student. Where are the rights of the majority?

 

They can't sue a Catholic school. They could sue a public school district if it was a public school.
