I see where some liberals on this thread are questioning her decision to step down. Questioning her committment to the state of Alaska. My question for you guys is "doesn't she have a right to chose?" Afterall a woman has a right to choose doesn't she?

The sports complex's architect and contractors reportedly have strong links and ties to Palin.

 

Spenard Building Supplies is the largest building supply company in Alaska - and they were also the supplier and contractor for ex-Senator Ted Stevens cabin.

 

Federal investigators have been looking into this since last October and now indictments on charges of public corruption and embezzlement appear to be imminent.

I think that Ms. Palin's reasons stated are true for her, but that the reality is more complex than the simple way she presented the decision.

 

Although she had a committment to the people of Alaska, I honestly feel that if she doesn't feel she can do the job the way it should be done, she honors that committment by stepping down.

 

Being a governor is a job. It's a public service job, but in the end, a just a job. If, for whatever reasons, she feels she cannot be effective, she's right to step down.

 

Personally, I wouldn't want a job in politics or any elected office for anything in the world. I wouldn't want to be President, and I wouldn't want to be the neighborhood block watch president. It's not a simple matter of just doing the job, and doing what's right. The games to be played are way above my tolerance level.

If she resigned to waste her time on a presidential run I think that at least puts her above Obama, McCain, Clinton and all the other politicians who cheat their constituants while they pursue their own agenda.

Palin instead cast herself as a victim and blasted the media, calling the response to her announcement "predictable" and out of touch.

 

"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country," the statement said. "And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."

 

"To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as 'fact' that Governor Palin resigned because she is 'under federal investigation' for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."

 

He also told the Anchorage Daily News that Palin wasn't in any criminal legal jeopardy.

 

"I can say definitively I am aware of no criminal investigation whatsoever involving Sarah Palin. Zero," he said.

 

The FBI reiterated that claim Saturday, telling the Los Angeles Times for a story Sunday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating Palin's activities as governor, a former mayor or in any other capacity. "There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, the bureau's Alaska spokesman, said.

 

 

Even Parnell, who plans to run for re-election after finishing out Palin's term, said he was shocked at first when he learned of his boss' decision.

 

"But then as she began to articulate her reasons, I began to understand better," he said. "And nobody — unless they've been in her position and understood what she has gone through and dealt with and who she is as a person — really understands."

Palin and her attorney are trying to scare the bloggers. I doubt it works. The ones she hates seem to have made it clear that they were reporting rumors. I'm no attorney but I assume as long as they say that "the rumor is...." and not report it as fact that this is a PR stunt and a waste of time.
